International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

You have some very nice birds! The pullet in the first picture on the left is an absolute doll! She has a really nice bottom line and tail. I see a lot of nice color and mass in your birds also.

Thank you, i'm loving thier type, even the chicks i hatched off my old line are turning out better than i expected, they still have the white in wings but the type and color showed huge improvements. I might put them over one of my newer cockerels off my new line(they are free of white feathers and have good dark underfluff) and see if i can get rid of the white, just to study more or less. I got lots of plans.

Here are my three candidates. Red white and blue leg bands. I think blue which was the better of the three earlier. Now has been beaten out by red band and maybe even white. I think white is younger so time will tell. Sorry picture heavy! Last picture is red tag.

My personal favorite of the 3 is white. I think he will have beautiful type and topline when he matures. I love how low his tail is right now, because from my conversations with Harvey, a bird with a low tail like that at your cockerels age will be just right when they mature. They still have a ways to go and some growing to do yet though before you'll know for certain which to keep. White is a very lovely cockerel! He would be my pick. :)

2nd egg is much nicer. I'm going to need some hard critiques on the hens once I get a breather and they grow up some. I hope the other 2 lay this nice and I have no idea which is laying.

Congrats, he's beautiful!

Why is it that the best ones are the ones you lose? I had to put down one of my roos the other day due to a leg issue that would make it impossible him to breed. He had the absolute best type, excellent tail angle and no white showing on his tail or wings :( He was a gorgeous boy. I have 2 more left but both have a little white in their tails and tail angles are a little high. One is better than the other though so he'll be the one I use. The other will only be staying around as an emergency backup.

sorry to hear that. when I got my first chickens the guy who sold them advised me not to prefer any. the special ones always leave early.
