International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Very happy for you! I’m anxious to see the Columbian project grow!

In the third pic, what variety is the pullet in the middle of the three on the left?

this pullet is Red Pyle marans . genetically speaking she is a white copper marans .she has the exact genes to a BC with a extra 1 dominant white gene I/i+.

the French standard call her a Dominant white variety . Not correct . the dominant white has to be completely white from the Extended black family E/E not the Birchen ER/ER like this one .

she well chunky and correct body type .no tail yet . but nice long back.

here some photos of this variety from a Marans -Club de France Magazine number 72.

this rooster actually has too much red on his chest .should be white with some red spots like the Black copper marking only the black is replaced with a white ,that all .
very hard to breed .it is a reason why they don t like it and they don t breed it .
if bred correctly it is stunning pattern .

I m going to try to breed it properly .

this time I m not interested to breed a classical marans varieties .the famous one ,
this time I m going a be breeding only the no existing or super rare varieties .more exiting .

They look great! Love all the variety! Is that a black tailed buff cockerel in the front of the 3rd picture? I see a cuckoo cockerel in the bunch too. Very nice! Congratulations on your new birds!

Very interesting! I like it.
I really love the Marans as a breed, but the black coppers always left me desiring something more. I’d love to see more diverse colors. Not to mention the BCs being so hard to breed correctly, I’m not in a position for the required heavy culling, so they just aren’t a good fit for me.
Surpringly, I haven’t had any takers on my listing for my 5 chicks. I thought they would sell like hot cakes.

here in Oz the marans chooks sale very fast . high demand.
I m not sure how does work over there where you are .

Black copper are famous for they dark eggs laying ability .but as plumage colour goes it is not the most impressive marans variety .
