International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

@WVduckchick I thought that named looked familiar in the American Game thread. We have Games in common. :) Too bad the folks on that thread aren't friendlier.

Lol they are different, for sure. They just enjoy pushing each other’s buttons. I don’t think any of it is viscous in any way. Just back-handed fun.

I actually felt very unwelcome here at first. It’s like walking into a school room as the new kid, not knowing anyone. :D

You have some beautiful games, by the way!!

Thank you! :D I felt very welcomed here from the get go. It's a much friendlier environment. I'm hoping the folks in the Game thread warm up to me.

You don't need luck. You have
Chooks man and you have talent. You have developed a good eye. You have learned a lot and come a long ways.

Thank you lady! I appreciate that! If I'm feeling down I can always count on you guys to make me feel better. :hugs

Chooks man is definitely an asset to us all.

when will you start your marneck project? could you, please, tell us about that?

I am curious what kind of comb they will have. I did work with Na Na naked necks and it is much tougher than the statistics say. I got very few naked necks (40% instead of 25%). I would mix all the other breeds first then add naked necks. otherwise you will be making a lot of soup, lol.

They should be straight combed, yes? Naked Necks are straight combed or so I thought, and so are Marans. They will be cool looking though. Lol

@WVduckchick looks like a moderator has closed the Game thread.
:idunno

I’m not sure what all is going on there. I suspect someone misconstrued some comments and got the mods watching.
Or maybe it was the comments about the fighting behaviors of the breed. It’s hard to discuss them without discussing their inherent behaviors, but that’s taboo ya know. Lol

@Chooks man will they lay olive eggs? I am interested to create olive eggers that breed true for olive eggs. again, statistcs say that at some point we can get any colour of egg (F4 or later).

Ok you can t wait . So I have to tall you .

the Marneck is dual purpose heavy breed .60% marans ,10% NN ,15% CLB and 15% Araucana
big body type '
heavy mass 4/5Kg
Necked Neck
Large eggs layer .all sort of colours .Olive Eager
straight comb

the best way to achieve this result is to make 3 different crosses at the start ,
First crosses=
Marans BC X Araucana = Group A
Marans Golden Cuckoo X CLB = G B
Marans White X NN = GC

2nd Crosses=
Group A Crossed Back to Marans Columbian= F2 GA
GB crossed Back to Marans Silver Cuckoo - F2 GB
GC X back to Marans Wheaten = F2 GC

3rd and forward crossing are more complicated to achieve the percentage of each trait from each variety alright and to breed true the type and the eggs colour .

Long journey ,will take the rest of my life to get it done if I m lucky
this is not a cross of few breeds .this is a project to create a new strain of chooks .stable and breed true .I ll make my own SOP.

looking forward to start

Someone got butt hurt and tattled. I asked. Fighting is a natural chicken behavior. There was no mention of cock fighting.

Here is another Max x Queen pullet I caught up. She is a breeder for sure.

Here is my only cockerel I kept out of the Mashburn cockerel and Sheraz. He runs with my free ranged birds.

What do you think about him @Chooks man ? His tail is a tad high but his copper is a deep color and I think he would do well over some of my well colored pullets with lower tails like the one I posted earlier. His sire was mahogany. His underfluff is dark also which I like.
