International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

they hatch down and body type will tell us a lot about Duke s .

I just got a sneak peak of them when I checked the incubator. They are nearly all hatched, I am just waiting on one or two more SDW OEG eggs to finish up for the hatch to be done. Duke's chicks look very good! There are only a handful in there but they are beautiful. No white around the faces! :D

I was thinking about giving them to a broody Game hen that is clogging up a nest in the hen house. She is a persistent and chronic broody. lol What do you think? Let a hen raise them, or brood them myself?

Took a few pictures today of Duchess and all of her attitude. She is a very sassy hen. She has copper, it is just very deep in color so it doesn't show up well in pictures.

Here is my first batch of chicks this year (minus 3 SDW OEG chicks I just snuck under a relentlessly broody hen). There are 4 BCM but one will likely need to be culled as it appears to have an issue with its legs. We'll see.

There are also 2 White Legbars in there and the rest are American Game. I am very happy with the hatch down of the BCM chicks. Two have very dark faces which I love! Oh and I have the chicks in a box with a nest pad as bedding as a makeshift brooder for tonight until I can take them up to the building in the morning. I didn't photograph the chick with the leg issue.

Cute chicks, tell us again what the white in the face down signifies? Does this show up as parasitic white later on? I have 9 BCMs three weeks old now and just wondering what I have to work with.

too much white on the hatch down of a BCM chicks mean ,they are a carrier of a parasitic white .
less white on them is better ,
