International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I am not sure yet but I think the hen laying the dark spotted egg with good shape is the blue silver Cuckoo. :hmm Bummer! What do I do with her!

a lot thing you can do with any hen who lay dark eggs like that .breed dark eggs layer strain from her .

my friend you need a good Black copper marans rooster to work with .will help you to fix your problem very quick .
i ll try to hook you up with a DZ of BCM fertile eggs from some body soon .

just had a look, the chick is black. somewhat lighter than the other one. the dark one looks like pullet, the lighter one looks exactly the same like my hen primula rosa when was a chick. for weeks I thought she had been a cockerel, lol. I suspect she is the chick's mom. she and luna (mama hen) lay huge eggs. I set the 2 biggest eggs I had.

I have not had much luck with shipping of egg to Wa, state. The last time 44 of awesomely packed Marans eggs I got 5 to hatch. That is where my Blue Silver Cuckoo hen came from. I am getting a started Black Copper Cockerel. I think will be a good one in about a month.

this cockerel is a little darker plus he has a thick lacing .
the French SOP call for a uniform blue with a light lacing .

but if a person is working with a Blue over a Blue than the cockerel should be darker like the one posted .
dark Blue cockerel is a breeder but not a show bird .

like I said before ,the blue is not a true plumage colour it is a Diluted Black ,so will throw many different shade . it is up to us to select recording to our need , breeder or show bird .

Over here they tell us to shoot for the blue like on a blue andalusian,Weather its on coppers, silvers or solids.

But there is no standard for blue copper/silver marans over here so most strive for that. I'm no professional by any means.

I told you I don t know what they call for in other SOP .
if I ll look into them all I ll be confused .far I m concern the French SOP is the one I work with .they are French chooks and bred by French ,even I disagree with a lot of them .

if you showing in the USA ,make sense to breed to the USA SOP .

I don t breed to show .I m trying to breed true marans that all .

good you are getting some BCM cockerels .still I love to get you a DZ just for a new blood .
the lady replayed to my email .she can t send the eggs now ,sending the chicks order first .she said she can send you 2 DZ in a month or 2 . they are from Wade Jean line .gorgeous looking rooster .rich red copper .what you need .the eggs are dark too .
she is from Illinois .Chicken scratch poultry . NOT sure how far away is from you.

do you think it is easier to receive chicks ? let me know
