that what I m trying to find out who is a Dam , if you think is Xina { agree cockerel look more like they dam } than is easier to find out .
Test the cockerel with Xina ,that will tell you if is a fault you always had but never showed up or just a mutation ?
if a lot of they progeny 3 or 4 chicks out of 10 have split wing than Xina is a carrier too .if just 1 showed up or none than it is a mutation come with Duke .

I will have to set them up to test mate in the spring. Since both Xena and Queen have darker copper it would about have to be one of them that produced the split wing cockerel. I dont think it was Queen because she is pure line A, my original line and Ive never encountered split wing before.

He is the only bird I have produced with the split wing... ever. It has been devastating because he is a big beautiful bird. :(

don t panick .the only bird .good news .
you used Duke to breed good tail and long flat back .so you need to select his daughters not his sons.
he is not a copper quality breeder but he is a complete body pattern breeder .
you see there is many qualities and fault ,but as a breeders we have to select the pairing .we can just speculate all the time .
we have to do some test mating
some back crossing
line breeding
all this sort of stuff will produce a correct and complete bird,
for now we are just trying to build our breeder stock ,we are not a breeders yet ,but we will be one day if we do what we have .

stick to your breeding program .and select your bird recording to they breeding purpose .

you have a good hens .you just need to find a perfect matting pair .

sound good plain to me .
knowing a Dam is very important when breeding .Does help a lot to minimize a culling .

Yes in hindsight, I regret group mating them but I was tight on pen space and my life has been crazy lately. Wont make that mistake again..

I will be strictly single mating them from here on out.

@kfelton0002

I like the one in the back perfect pullet .body type ,hackle marking every thing I see from here is perfect .maybe is just she know how to pose .

tell me about her please

She is one of my best pullets I raised but she was younger and smaller yet so I didnt put her up for show. I am guessing based on her hackle color and type she is possibly from Malika (Queen's daughter) or Queen. Duke is her sire.

Here are two pullets I put up for show. I chose for size and selected my two most mature pullets since larger birds show better. One pullet does have a higher tail and brown eyes but is huge so that is why I chose her. A lot of my other pullets are still young and dainty still.

These pullets are offspring of Duke as well over my hens.

I like they body type but the have a lot of extra Melanin making the eyes .feet and face black .
but a perfect body type .I don t know about the show ,what they are looking for ,and who is compeeting.

I like the hackle pullet better .for me she is what I looking for .
