International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

She is one of my best pullets I raised but she was younger and smaller yet so I didnt put her up for show. I am guessing based on her hackle color and type she is possibly from Malika (Queen's daughter) or Queen. Duke is her sire.
feed her well .
Keep her away from a cockerels
she will fill up nicely .
how old is she?
she has a perceft body shape and marking .
Queen is playing around .
when you know who is a dam ,make it eazy to see the improvement or the regress .
keep your eyes on her and don t let any cockerel around her tell she is ready to breed 9 or 10 month .you want it fully grown when we breed from her next season .

you have done great my friend .you should be proud ,

I like they body type but the have a lot of extra Melanin making the eyes .feet and face black .
but a perfect body type .I don t know about the show ,what they are looking for ,and who is compeeting.

I like the hackle pullet better .for me she is what I looking for .

I agree, I like her best which is why I penned her up early to protect her from predators.

Bigger and heavier birds tend to show better. Judges arent as fluent in Marans so they like to pick the biggest birds a lot of the time. I may end up taking her anyway. The sire (Duke) has marbled eye color so a lot of the offspring have marbled eye color or brown eyes.

I really like her .
mark her are a complete body shape and body marking breeder .
post some of her half sibling cockerels if you have and when you have time
we need to find a good much for her . just for her .single pair

I sure will! I was thinking about putting her with Prince who is Queen's son. Prince has Queen's deeper copper color.

This is an older picture of him and his shoulder has more color now. I will get more recent pics of him when I can. He is pure from my line A.

@kfelton0002

here how to breed Duke.
you all ready matted him and hatch chicks from him .but that does not mean you have bred him .
here the Method to breed him .he will be a suprime sire down the line without using him any more .simple formula .
her what you need =
1} perfect pullet my favourite { Sired by Duke /Queen /Malika
2] Queen or Malika { Dam or the grand Dam } or both .{ not elatted to Duke
3} Split wing cockerel { sired by Duke / Xina } 50% Duke

this group I select for you is to start your own line and Breed Duke and Queen .
First mate the cockerel SW to perfect = any SW is a cull . this progeny will still 50% Duke 25 Queen or Malika .

Second = Mate Duke to Queen and Malika to produce more of perfect .this progeny will be 50% Duke and 50%Queen . any SW is a cull

Third =Select the best Son of Perfect and mate him back to her.{this progeny will still 50% Duke s} .
this same cockerel mate him to Queen or Malika and the best pullets from Duke over Queen/Malika . Grand Dam or GG Dam will help to get ready off any SW genes come from Duke s but keeping and adding good qualities from queen /Malika . this progeny will be 2 type .one will be 75% Queen and 25% Duke from Queen/Malika. the second from a pullets will be50%Duke s genes .

Forth= the best second son of Perfect { 50% Duke } is matted to Perfect his Dam { to produce a future cockerels} and a best Daughters of Queen/Malika { from the first son of perfect .this progeny will be 38% Duke and 72% Queen s } and other will be 50% Duke s { from the pullets}

this program will help you maintain =
body type . fixing body pattern and colour. nice correct taill .fix all the good stuff and out all the fault .year after year .with a same familly of chooks Queen and Duke @ top of it .they proven they are worthy .

good luck

I like that idea too .
Breeding Queen blood line
in the end of the day Queen s seem to be you best foundation hen.

you can breed both cockerels to perfect and work with them separately . you will merge them when time come to make it into one superior line .

you have good chooks .don t go made about your self .you are a dedicatted breeder .just some time life get too busy .too much to do .

Thank you! I appreciate you saying that. I will start in December when I have the free time and move them around to where I want them for breeding. I'm hoping once my schooling is done next month I'll have more time to work with them.

Thanks for all the advice! :)
