International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Thank you for the explanation.
I do see a couple that may be cockerels with some whitening on their faces now that it has been a few days since hatch.

So this is correct hatch down. This dusty color means ER/ER. Good to know.

we need low tails cockerels if we can get few will be nice .
we focus on breeding type , full body pattern ,correct uniform copper . correct conformation and dark eggs .
parasitic white and other stuff can wait ,we need to build a house first and make it weather prove before we start thinking about decorating it .
one step at time .we will get far and efficient . other wise we just hatching and culling without plans .than the backyard will look empty .

chicks start hatching and many hens are sitting on eggs . have not to the farm for 11 days now . too many thing to do in the new place ,lot work ,
troy is taking care of the chooks like always . he is in charge setting all this broody hens .
each hen incubate only eggs from one pen . not mixing the eggs . Pen breeding method .
se said to me he is running out of broody hens and space , no more vacancy .
I will go after the weekend . will post some photos of 2021 chicks . au natural . no extra work is needed .mama hens in charge .

I love Broody hens. I don’t care if I want chicks or not I still put eggs under. One of the best things is watching mama at work.

A very busy time of year.
I look forward to seeing pictures.

These new chicks are in my bathtub.
I hear what sounds like a chick choking or coughing.

I run in there and one little 5 day old chick is standing on the heat pad cave choking out an awful cock-doodle-doo.

He has been doing it most mornings ever since then after I turn the light on for the day.

I have been trying to catch it on video. When I do, I will post it if I can figure it out.

Ive never had a chick do this so young in all my years.....

I had one that started crowing at 9 days old. Good news is you have at least 1 cockerel.

good sign early maturing cockerel ,
I had one start @ 11 days old . @ 4 months he was fully into breeding business . his sisters start to lay @ 6 months exactly .
mark him please .hopefully he has a correct conformation and low tail .
there is many traits we can breed for .it is not body type and body pattern .lot lot more .all need to be addressed if some one want to breed a solid line .
