One white and some blue silver and black silver marans chicks.

a friend of a friend is going to import chicks in may. bcm are among them. I hope to sell my house this year and move to my new place. so there will be opportunity to get marans again. after the last year's huge loss in marans I do not dare to get them here in greece. they all seem to be sick (probably inbred). unfortunately people think about making money and do not breed properly.

Good luck. I will soon be looking a roo or 2 myself or hatching eggs. I've always hand raised my roos and been lucky getting nice boys. I think it helps and I know I could still get a mean one, but it's worked for me so far. I'd like a couple more hens too. Pickin's round here are slim when it comes to marans. Good ones are next to impossible to find...but I still search!
This is the first time in 9 years I've not had a rooster. My boy lived to be an old man but passed a couple weeks ago. He just started slowing down with his fall molt never showed any signs of being sick. He crowed everyday up until 2 days before he passed and still was clucking for his girls. A couple older girls stood watch over him those last days. I really miss him and his crow. :hit
Oh and he was not pure marans but his dad was a mix but he looked the part and his daughters produced a fairly dark egg.
Such a sweet boy he loved to eat from my hand but always shared with the girls first.

My husbands French Marans… the chicks are Blue Copper, the Hen on my arm Lana is a Blue FM… her egg is the darkest of the 9 laying Hens.

The chicks are a week old, today was weighing day for all the chicks we are currently raising.

Lana hurt her beak, so she has the predictable bump on the beak, I’m watching it, it should clear up on it’s own, if it does not I will fix it.

All the egg colours being laid by the mixed flock… the Maran egg stands out, next darkest and pinkish egg are from Naked Necks, the Green eggs are from Crested Cream Legbar x Welsummers, the tan egg on bottom next to the Maran egg is a D’Uccle, the two tan eggs above that have speckles and are from Phoenixes, and the tan one left top corner from a Black Swedish Hen. I do love the colour of the Maran eggs… just gorgeous.

Hello Everyone, It has been a very long time! I have two hens, Gabby and a companion. It is time to start again. So glad to see the familiar friends still here and of course all the Maran friends that have joined since I have been gone.
WaaaHooo,
RedBanks is back I am so glad. I remember Gabby. She must be getting up there in age?
You have contributed so much to this thread. Can not wait to see what you are going to do.
Hopefully Chooks Man will show up soon. Just like the Old Days. OH HAPPY DAYS TOM
