I did the same, Ameraucanas were not for me. Loved how cute they were, the blue eggs but they were too noisy for me!

Treadle feedersWhat kind of feeders?
I think they where called Grandpa's treadle feeder. I fill the chickens feeders in the big pen once a week or so. The pheasants about once a month.Treadle feeders?

I know my red golden pheasants are not heavy enough to open them. I had to put a metal bar on it so they could open it. Not sure rats weight. Now if two rats stepped on it then it would probably open.would rats open those feeders?

It might work but would be super expensive to put feeders in 20 pens!a friend of mine noticed that something (rats) ate chicken feed from the feeders (big, round, open). he went to check at night and found at least 10 rats in 1 feeder. he has about 20 chicken coops (and feeders).
We had to do something about the mice. There where so many. Every time we went out in the pens the mice where everywhere. Even when we put the feeders up. The chickens still scratch the feed out of the feeders and feed the mice. For our situation this was the best thing we ever did. Not only where the mice eating a lot of feed but the chickens would waste sooo much feed. I go out now and rarely see any mice.I never thought about mice or rats. I think I will just put my feeders up every night. I do know I feed catfood to the entire county!
