International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Rusty is going a be a tall boy with a bad tail .BUT .is going to be correctly colored with a nice wide chest .

i like the black on him pure no white any where . even in his shanks . that is great .

Nice eyes ( pass it to all his progeny )
Spotted coppery chest 9 all his progeny will be nicely colored )
absence of any white ( all his progeny will have a pure black feathers )

the back and the tail could be corrected with a hen ,because they are not sex linked genes ,they come from both parents ,so a hen with a great long back and nice tail even if she is black with a black eyes will give a great result with him in the breeding pen .

this LA pullet will give a great result with Rusty .
she have a long strait back he need .
she have also a great tail ,witch he is lucking .
both have a pure black .no white

take about 5/6 years of selective breeding to remove a parasitic white from a Black strain .Good start never mind other fault ,they are easier to correct .

The black in this pullet is sublime ,no white , minimum sheen at the top of her body .

Copper is gorgeous .
he have a great copper and a lot of it ,he will be well colored when adult . .
I do love his back long ,wide all the way to the tail.
great tail .
his asset will be his hackle ,Rich red Copper ,a lot of it ,will cover most of his shoulder.

I like him a lot lot .

extra feathers on his shank ,not a big deal like most of people make of it .

I ll breed from him just for his back and his gorgeous hackle.

here your best pair ,expect a great result .
she have a correct body type
a deep chest
great tail

he is not going to add much to her any way ,but he will give you a cockerel ( cockerels inherit a lot stuff from they mom almost 100% ) because of the sex linked genes
when you get a cockerel from her than you can mate him to her and start a line ( if she have a nice eggs ).

Not recommended pairing
luck of the copper plus a high big tail .

she seem to have a deep chest and a long back ,but hard to tell from the photo.

with all this pullets we will have some nice chicks to chose from

This is my first time with BCMs. I have 1 BCM pullet and 2 Blue Copper Cockerels. They are a few days over 8 weeks. I posted their pictures in another thread but I thought I'd share them here as well.

I really need to get some updated pictures. Even though these pics are only 3 days old, they are already showing a lot more copper! It's very strange to me!

But they are currently going through their second juvenile molt.

Question, all 3 of the marans have at least 2 or 3 white primary feathers. It is my understanding they may shed these and regrow black during one of their first adult molts. Do you think it is possible to happen during this juvenile molt?

Rusty is the same breeding as my birds..... exact same breeding, so lots of copper and wrong tail.
