International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

@Tstraub ... Got an idea. If I remember right your roughly 3 hours from me? (Lansing) What do you think about meeting half way here in March ish and doing an egg swap. Marans eggs for your Olive Egger eggs?
I’m sure we could work something out. I’m not sure I’ll be ready by March. I’ll see how things look once my girls start laying

Whenever, Bud. No obligation at all just throwing it out there if I can help...Is your Blue an EE or OE? I'd like to know what color chicks she would produce being covered by your BCM roo?

I'm thinking about firing up the incubator tomorrow and doing a test hatch. I've got a dozen of Ravens eggs.
Here's the thing.... She'd be 6.5 months old. (Too early?) And Kong has only been in with the Marans for 12 days, so that leaves King as most likely the sire to any chicks and I would have to cull hard any cockerels for white.
King is her sire, don't know dam for positive.
Thoughts?
I think I would give it a try if I were you. I know it’s not ideal but it’s possibly your last chance to get chicks from her. Best she is hiding out somewhere sitting on eggs and she makes it back in 3 weeks and raises up the incubated eggs for you.

Worst case they don’t hatch or you get some culls to practice the incubation process on. Maybe practice butchering if that your plan for the culls.

Yes it's not ideal for sure. This happened too early. I hate to waste her eggs and wonder what she could've produced? I can always just use the girls for eggs. I'll get a pic up of her egg color tomorrow.
I need sleep.

Her mother is an EE mostly white in color but she had some leakage on her that looked red or maybe buff. I wish I would have looked at her closer but at the time I didn’t know enough to pay attention to her. Her father is BCM. I don’t have any idea if her mother had one or two copies of the blue egg gene. If she inherited the blue gene she should be an olive egger. If not I guess she would just be a barn yard mix.

Agree with @Tstraub

I think I would try. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

After reading a little about genetics I believe the color of the dam would have been called splash not leakage. The breeder did say that all of the OEs he hatched came out blue.

You have just the 2?

Who's laying that top egg?

I definitely don't know enough about genetics. But curious what the chicks would look like. Will black be dominant? With mixes I know it's a grab bag of colors but she's very pretty.

But like I said I'm in no rush, I've got the one EE. So whenever your ready. I've got plenty of test mating to hatch out.
I just thought seeing we are close in distance this would be a win win with no cost but gas, and it would get you a different line to play with.
I'm no where close to breeder quality but you are at least able to see my birds grow out and you know my line (qualities and faults) thru the pics and comments from others here.
If you would rather source better quality I completely understand.
