International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

You have just the 2?

Who's laying that top egg?
Yes I currently have just 2 BCM pullets. I hatched out 8 BCM 1 OE and 2 light Brahma all from the same breeder. Once they started growing the brooder got overcrowded and they all started fighting for space and pulling each others feathers out. I gave 4 of the BCM and both of those brahama to one of my wife’s coworkers because she was looking for some chicks and I had more than I could house at the time

That green egg is one of my original OEs they are from Rual King (Hoover Hatchery) their website list them as cockoo marans x Americana I have a total of 4 from that line 3 lay light green and one brown. If I had to guess which exact bird I would guess Cocoa she always lays the lights of all.

Cocoa is at the front of this picture he is nearly finished molting and will hopefully start laying again soon

Was asking how many EE/OE's you had but you answered it 😂

I definitely don't know enough about genetics. But curious what the chicks would look like. Will black be dominant? With mixes I know it's a grab bag of colors but she's very pretty.

From what I can believe after very little research if you breed a black to a blue you get 50%black and 50% blue chicks. But since there is Easter egger in there she could be hiding all sorts of genes a may not breed true

I would like to work out an egg swap with you just want to make sure everything is in working order here so we get it right the first go around.

Ok sounds good. Ask as many questions as you want til then. As I stand Joannie and Angel are my darkest eggs. But now that I got Kong in, I'll hopefully be improving my line.
Could all back fire on me, who knows, but I'll find out this year.
I'm currently trying to source an outside line for better quality stock and I'll keep you posted if I find anything.
But I'm doing my best to research to better my line and won't make any decisions without guidance from the experts here.

There are 2 more EE pullets in the coop as well. Neither has laid yet so I’m still unsure if they have the blue egg gene. Lots of possible crosses to play with
Ok cool. Looking forward to seeing their eggs when they start up. Yes, that would give me different crosses/egg shades to play with also. Especially seeing as my EE is cockerel dominant according to my last hatch. 5 eggs set... 2 double yoke didn't hatch, 3 cockerels hatched. I need hens. 😂

1st question of many... I've got Ravens eggs in the barn, in a mini fridge with a low wattage bulb registering roughly 60 degrees pretty consistently. Cold here 20-30's F.
There in an egg carton, pointy down. Pulling out, moving around randomly with no thought about incubation in mind.
Ok, what now ? If I fire up the incubator today. Get it up to temp and everything seems good to go by say set day tomorrow, what's my protocol for the eggs?

Bring them in house to stand, rotate egg carton 45 degrees back and forth? how often? I hear something about spritzing them with hydrogen peroxide? Or lightly wipe off any debris? When should I get them in the incubator after letting them set in house/rotating?
Anything else I need to do?
I don't have a Govee, I need one or 3.

I don’t have a lot of experience so if someone else has other advice I would probably go with what they say. I would bring the eggs into the house and let them come up to room temperature.

I would clean your incubator some people recommend taking it apart but in my opinion I would not take anything apart unless you are 100% sure you can put it back together without issue. Eggs have the best chance of hatching if they are set within 10 days of laying. You have 12 eggs all from one bird so some of those eggs are already past the optimum time so now is not the time to accidentally break something just mild dish soap and wipe it down good. I would still set every egg you have just because they are a few days past optimum doesn’t mean they can’t hatch just that they are slightly less likely to hatch. Every day past 10 takes some percentage of hatch ability away.

Then I would turn it on and monitor the temperature and humidity for the rest of today and set the eggs tomorrow morning
