International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I don’t have a lot of experience so if someone else has other advice I would probably go with what they say. I would bring the eggs into the house and let them come up to room temperature.

I would clean your incubator some people recommend taking it apart but in my opinion I would not take anything apart unless you are 100% sure you can put it back together without issue. Eggs have the best chance of hatching if they are set within 10 days of laying. You have 12 eggs all from one bird so some of those eggs are already past the optimum time so now is not the time to accidentally break something just mild dish soap and wipe it down good. I would still set every egg you have just because they are a few days past optimum doesn’t mean they can’t hatch just that they are slightly less likely to hatch. Every day past 10 takes some percentage of hatch ability away.

Then I would turn it on and monitor the temperature and humidity for the rest of today and set the eggs tomorrow morning

12/11/23 first egg... 22 days. Good advise.. thank you

I'm thinking about firing up the incubator tomorrow and doing a test hatch. I've got a dozen of Ravens eggs.
Here's the thing.... She'd be 6.5 months old. (Too early?) And Kong has only been in with the Marans for 12 days, so that leaves King as most likely the sire to any chicks and I would have to cull hard any cockerels for white.
King is her sire, don't know dam for positive.
Thoughts?

good idea. don't worry about white, that's the last thing to deal with.

I think this might be Chanel’s darkest egg ever, I’m so glad she’s back in lay. Her daughter should start in a few months time, still got some growing to do (she looks a lot like her mum).

once I hatched 19 days old egg. you never know.

bring the eggs inside and keep them for a few hours at room temperature. I wouldn't use any soap. ask what to do in hatching and incubating forum or google for more information. sorry but I cannot tell you more.
Awesome thank you. Incubators on and eggs are on standby. I did find one other egg dated 12/31. Not sure if Angel or Raven laid it. I'm adding it. Going to see if I get one more EE egg in morning and I'm loading it up. So 13 Marans and 1-2 EE eggs. 😃 So exciting, my first incu- hatch.

If your barred rock is currently fertilized you might consider popping an egg or two of hers in the incubator. Marans eggs can be difficult to see through when you candle them. If you have a couple light colored eggs it might help you learn what you are looking at. The EE could serve the same purpose but since she just started laying they might not be fertilized and would be clear with no development. I did my Marans along with light Brahama and EE eggs. It seemed helpful for me to have some easy to see ones in the mix.
