Look on the Buy/Sell/Trade forum here and look for Brian Walden (I think), he is selling BCM eggs now. Good luck.Didn't know where to post this, but I am extremely interested in buying some fertilized BCM eggs from good stock this spring, so if anyone could lead me to someone, or offer to sell me some, that would be great!
parasitic white on the BCM and BLCM strain are comment and international .
to breed it out is going to take a while . you have to go step by step .
minimum white on the chicks hatch down is better not all black neither Penguiny .
a dots around the beak and the eyes are the hardest to bred out but they are not problematic as too match white on the wing and the chest
to correct the white fluff on the future progeny you have to mate your rooster ( with a white fluff) you need a hen with a pure dark under fluff NO grey
here some photos of the proper BCM chicks hatch down
I m finding out this type of chicks are free from a parasitic white and they have a rich coppery hackles. they are free from the white lacing normally you see in the infected BCM chicks .
chooks man
Hey I have a question about BCM eggs I'm hoping some one here has an answer or thought....Ruby was hatched August of last year (2016) and has started laying this spring, for about 3 weeks. She gets Purina 16% layer feed, access to oyster shell, water, occasional treats like dried mealworms/corn/strawberry tops, grapes, plain greek yogurt-as well as free ranging time most every day. I have other hens that get the same everything, Ruby is my only BCM hen.
My question is: do BCMs normally have dark raised speckles? I've looked this up on here and they say its calcium deposits on the shell and could be due to tress or poor diet? I guess I don't see how that could be since like i said all my hens get the same everything and none of them has ever laid an abnormal egg and ALL of Ruby's eggs look this way. Is this just normal for a BCM? I do have 2 roosters, they'd be the only source of "stress" I can think of. But i've never noticed Ruby being more piked on or anything. I don't really see any hen being "picked" on honestly.
Just wondering if thats just the way BCM eggs are or not....
thanks for any help you can give!!
So far I have only hatched 3 chicks that have had no white (or just a tiny speck of white) on the face, one was just culled for severe splayed legs from hatch, one has a lot of middle toe feathering, and the 3rd was the chick I previously posted pics of (no middle toe feathering). She is sporting two blue bands! I stole the double banding of my keepers idea from you! Thanks for that.![]()
I have a whole brooder full of Marans chicks now, but sadly most will not stay. I just got a 90% hatch rate on my last Marans hatch from yesterday though!![]()
Two of my black copper pullets lay eggs as smooth as satin, no speckles/spots. But one lays a consistent #4 with dark brown slightly raised spots of color. They aren't calcium deposits, just thicker layers of color. Calcium deposits make an egg have a rough, gritty feel. She may just be getting all the kinks worked out with her egg laying. It sounds like she is very healthy and happy. No worries.
