Chooks Man,

This is my 12 week old BCM Pullet out of Briscoe (BCM) and Ellie Mae (BCM). She has the smallest tail of all my Spring Pullets which she carries straight out or slightly down. She is showing good copper hackles, has a long back and lightly feathered shanks. She has the dark eyes and is smaller than my other pullets. She gets picked on a lot by her hatchmates so that may have something to do with her small size. Also, there is no white on this girl.

Here is a pic I took this morning of my Splash Hen (Charlene). She has the shorest tail of my three breeding hens. In this pic she is carrying tail straight back and closed. Sometime she carries her tail fanned and closed.

she is gorgeous!

take her out and give her some boiled egg 2-3 times a week. that might help with her size.

Well said my friend! My focus is to test mate different combinations to see which pairings match up best then go from there. The majority of Otis's progeny have the green / blue eye at hatch.

Chooks Man,

I checked the cockerel this morning, he has a couple of light blue / gray tail feathers - no white. When I held him up to the sun the light easily shines thru these light blue / feathers making them look white in pics. I also checked his wing feathers and fluff near his tail - no white. He has a small white tipped feather on one foot.

white tipped feather on the foot is fine ,should molt out .

she inherited the copper from her sire Briscoe and inherited the dark eyes from her Dam .So she is a split on eyes color ( mean she carries both genes )
the tail is from her Sire too .
in theory if you mate her with her Sire Briscoe ( gorgeous eyes and nice tail ) she will thrown good tail and great eyes progeny for sure .

she is very nice .love her short feet and long flat back .
I like her tail short and close far I can see .NOT high for sure .

how many chicks you managed to hatch from her this breeding season ?

if mated to Briscoe ( nice tail and great eyes) and hatched around 25 chicks ,I guaranty more than half of them will have sublime tail and all of them will have orange pretty eyes .
most of the time genetic favor the high number

I see a good progeny coming out of this matting . Tail I m not sure.

I see well colored progeny with mass and great shank feathering coming out this mating .
the cockerels will have Rich red coppery hackle .

the comb will be they weakest link .

by the way I love her blue plumage uniform and well laced .

here some photos of the 20 pullets I separated from the rest .
they are in they new pen - using only the small run tell they get used to it before I let them out to the big run ( orchid )
I penned a Blue Silver/gold cuckoo cockerel Woodrock with them .
they seem well happy
tomorrow I ll cover the run with a shade cloth as wind break .

top of the coop is going covered with succulents plants .
the clear sheet of plywood is going to be a long window ,good for the summer time ,south facing where the cold air come from .
