she is very nice .love her short feet and long flat back .
I like her tail short and close far I can see .NOT high for sure .
how many chicks you managed to hatch from her this breeding season ?
if mated to Briscoe ( nice tail and great eyes) and hatched around 25 chicks ,I guaranty more than half of them will have sublime tail and all of them will have orange pretty eyes .
most of the time genetic favor the high number

Thanks Chooks Man! I hatched 8 chicks from Briscoe and Charlene (Splash) - 5 cockerels and 5 pullets. This mating produced 50% with good eye color (green/blue) and nice combs. Most have long closed tails. I'll some pics from this mating. I'm seeing good traits from this mating just not all in one chook. I have 2 nice Cockerels - good color, size, nicer combs but not perfect - but they have the dark eye. The pullets have they mama's size / type, copper hackles but 3 have the dark eyes. I'll post pics of chicks from this mating.
Take Care,
Keith

Chooks Man,
Here are pics of a couple of pullets from Briscoe and Charlene. Both pullets are 12 weeks old.
BLCM Pullet - This chick was hatched by Charlene (her sole surviving chick). I call her Andalina. She has good size, nice long back, nice green eyes, and is showing some copper hackles. She has a long closed tail carried straight back. She has the best personality of all my pullets - she will jump up on my forearm or lap. She must think she's a falcon. She is quick to defend herself with authority even with the cockerels. She will be Boss Hen one day. She was the smallest chick for the first 4-5 weeks but has since caught up in size. As for just being chicken - she's my favorite.

BLCM Pullet - This chick has a good size / type, nice long back, good feathered legs / feet, and is showing good copper hackles. She has a long closed tail and dark eyes. She also had good hatch down color (no white on face).

Something I forgot to mention, it has been 96-98degrees, 104-108 heat index and 60-70 humidity in North Texas for the past couple of weeks so that may affect how the chicks are holding themselves in some of the pics.
I'll get some pics of the cockerels from this mating.
Thanks,
Keith
thank you for the pic.
9 out of 11 were similar. the other 2 had a bit more white, not too much. about 5 of them were little ravens (almost all black). I am now waiting for copper. this might be a problem as none of the roos had nice copper - at least not perfect.
I have 3 little ones that might be full brothers to 3 pullets so I have to separate them. next year I will be working with what I have. luckily I don't see big faults so far. I think all of them have green eyes (I thought that was dark, lol).
your line is showing a good sign .NO parasitic white .
now you have 2 line to work with . go one step at the time and pair them nicely and you should get nice looking marans .
the copper need some time to breed it into any line as long as the egg color is good and the body type .
you ll get there .
we are not competing ,just breeding some nice marans for ours selves ,so does not mater how long ll take .as long as we are doing the right thing and taking the best decision when needed .
all the best

it seems I have only luna and 3 other pullets for breeding. they are still young so they might get more copper. if not, they will join my english araucana guy. no marans for soup here!
we have another heat wave till monday. I lost another hen yesterday not sure if heat was the reason as she was rumpless araucana. I am getting rid of rumpless araucanas. I cannot deal with their health issues and I need room for marans. I plan to have 2 flocks of marans, 1 with english araucana cockerel + naked necks/marans and 1 mixed laying flock. I am also selling my pair of orpingtons. if I don't find a buyer my mixed brahma roo will go to the pot when my parents come and my orpington guy will join the laying flock.
