International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I have high hope.s for this BLCM Cockerel (son of Otis). He had the proper hatch down. I like his type, size, long back, green eyes, slate legs / feet with pink undertones, medium sized legs, strong head, copper ear tufts and copper spotting on his breast. I would like to see more red on his shoulders but he has a lot more growing to do. His sire was somewhat of a late bloomer.

His wing feathers are out of place because he has been fighting with the other cockerels.

he is lovely .
love his body type and his long back
I can see he has a long tail but not open .that is a good sign.
Comb need some work at the rear .double point there . the 5 th point is joint to the 6th and the 6th point is double. easy fix .
from the last photo of him I can see one feather with a white or is just a light

he do have a lot great quality .don t worry too much about this shoulder .they ll color up . I can see the copper is there .

Bravo you done great .
let him do more growing

Another BLCM Cockerel, son of Otis and full brother to the Cockerel in my previous post. I like this cockerel's color, long back, green eyes, strong head, medium sized legs with good slate color and pink undertones. He's on the darker end of the blue spectrum. He lacks the size and mass of his brother but he may be more colorful than his brother. This cockerel reminds a lot of Otis at his age.

Keith

I do like this one .maybe small but a handsome boy.
I do like his Blue color .I don t think is dark at all . good contrast between the upper body Blue ( darker) and the lower body Blue ( lighter )

all your chicks have a long tail .
need to know from witch parent come from

I think this 2 brothers compliment each other well
- chunky and less colored .
- small and well colored

very strong and pretty head .

Impressed .

if your friend is using a different roo over his hens ,than it is not a same line ,it is a cousin line . except if his roo is line bred .
I like her a lot any way .

rat dropping explain your trouble my friend .they are very bad those creature . I don t like them

I agree with your vet 100% .
it is easier for you to get those product in Greece .
good luck

chooks man

my friend got the roo from another line. I don't like him a lot but I have just seen copper in 1 pullet's hackle from my friend's line. the one with straw hackles might not be as bad as she seemed. she is not developing colour all over her body, hackle and chest only. I am waiting for them to grow a bit and then I will take some pics.

btw, doxycycline I give to my chickens is human's pills called vibramycin. they are much cheaper than doxycycline for animals (my vet told me that).

they are both nice and a good type .I wish they where standing properly to see they body type .
I prefer the second pullet .lovely hackle .

I see both of them have a long open tail

is the sire Ottis or they mama have the open long tail ?

love they Blue plumage.

chooks man

Thank you my friend. They mama has a long open fan tail carried at about 55 degree angle. Actually all 3 of my breeding hens have the long open tail which presents a breeding challenge. Otis has somewhat of a shorter tail but held at a 40-45 degree angle. I have another BLCM Pullet out of Briscoe (BCM) and Charlene (Splash) that I really like - I'll get some pics of her posted soon.

Thanks Chooks Man! I agree with you on the comb, not his best feature, but if he colors up nice then I can work with him. He has one tail feather that has some very light blue or white. My hope is that once he molts the feather will come back the correct color.

I have 3 cockerels (from another mating pair) with really nice combs with good type and size but they all have dark eyes. One of theses cockerels is not showing good color and another has white down near the base of his tail. I do have one dark eyed cockerel that keeps catching my eye - I'll post pics of him.

I do have one BCM Pullet that has a smallish tail, nice copper hackles but a dark brown eye. I'll post pics of her as well.

Chooks Man,

I thought I would post pics of my breeding pairs. In this pen I bred Briscoe to Ellie Mae (BCM) and Charlene (Splash).

Briscoe (BCM) - He has good type, size, mass, light gray shanks / feet with pink undertones, copper ear tufts and some copper spotting on his breast. Overall I like his color but I would like a little more red on the shoulder and the lower hackle feathers have a wider black line than I prefer. His comb is OK but he shows points on the blade. He also has a long tail but closed and held at a good angle. I was hoping he could correct the tail issue.

Charlene (Splash) - This Hen has good size, mass, and medium sized legs, and good feathered shanks. She has an open fan tail but she always carries her tail in a flat or downward position. Her eyes are a lighter orange color. I don't love her comb. She lays a consistent 6 with an occasional 7 - she produces about 3 eggs per week.

Ellie Mae (BCM) - This Hen has good size, mass, medium sized legs and lightly feathered shanks. She has the nicest comb of my 3 breeding hens and the best tail but she carries her tail open. I don't love her brown-orange eyes and her back feathers form a cushion. She does have some dark copper color on her hackles (mid-to-lower neck) which is hard to see in pictures. She lays a consistent 5-6 and produces about 4 eggs per week.

I'm thinking about test mating Otis and Ellie Mae this fall.

Chooks Man,

This is my other breeding pair - Otis and Thelma Lou.

Otis (BCM) - My best colored Coq - nice copper hackles, ear tufts, saddle feathers, well spotted chest and nice red shoulders. He has the orange-red eyes, nice leg feathering and light gray shanks with pink under tones. Straight legs, well spaced. The only thing I don't like about him is his tail - wry tail, long sickle feathers. He is well mannered, takes care of his hens. Not as large as Briscoe.

Thelma Lou (BLCM) - She is my most skittish hen so best pic I got. She has good size, decent type, good medium-sized legs and good leg feathering. You can't see it in pictures but she does have some faint copper color throughout her hackles. I don't like her comb (flop comb) and her fan tail which she carries high and open. She also the brown eye. She lays a consistent 5 and produces 4 eggs per week.
