International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Thanks so much.
Ok 1 more question for now if I put the males in separate pens but side by side is this going to slow down the underdogs development? Better if they can't see each other?
Thanks Scott

Its okay if they can see each other if you cant help it. It wont slow their development. The top dog rooster wont be able to dominate over the underdog so the underdog's confidence will grow. The will show off to one another if they can see each other. :)

those pullets are high class breeders ,regardless of they high tail .I don t think is that bad. specially if we consider the truck load of good traits they have .
Big pullets .
pure black plumage .and under fluff .
gorgeous eyes
nice body type . tall and elegant
rich copper hackle 9 they ll pass on to they son s
comb look good to me .
deep solid chest

I like they vigor over all .solid alert chooks .

don t mean they have high tail .than all they progeny will have high tail .doesn t work like that .
this theory work only if the chooks are bred true for that trait . let say bred for high tail ,and they yield the majority of they progeny will have high tail .

we are working with unstable line ,too many crosses ,many genetic low are involved .

they are Griffin s ladies . they have the Mahogany he need .and he has the good short tail they need .
the comb I can t really tell ,because i can t see the pullets comb close .

if you mate those girls to Griffin expect big marans chooks ,solidly build .with gorgeous body color and eyes color .
super wide at the rear ( big eggs layer )with a long back ,some will have nice tail too . specially the pullets .

We aRE LOOKING FOR A BREEDER CHOOKS NOT A SHOW BIRD YET .
we need to keep the genetic diversity of our existing flock for the future if we want to build a strong and healthy lines .

all the best
chooks man

There is no rooster in that pen so I can put Griffin in there so when they start laying they will be fertile. I can hatch chicks from them if you think they are good matches for Griffin. :)

Im glad you and Redbanks like them. Maybe Im a tad too picky! Lol

You have nothing to lose, everything to gain!

When you put eggs in to incubate, what size/weight are they for best hatching? Are they pullet size or full grown hen size? I don’t want to rush anything if I need to wait for better batch rates. Thanks
Wait until they are hen sized eggs. I would apply this to all the breeds I work with.

I wish I had one of those egg shade scales, as the middle left egg is so velvety chocolate.
I'm now NPIP! It seems not many have gotten certified in my state, as my number is 87. Heh
