International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

My main goal is to breed to SOP, but since I've never even been to a poultry show I figured it would probably be beneficial for me to get my feet wet. It will also help me to see what the other birds look like, and it will help me to learn how the poultry show world works. Whether my birds win or lose, I think showing chickens sounds like fun from the show folks I have talked to. We have some beautiful birds here and I am very proud of them. Not only my Marans, but my Games and Cream Legbars too.

Here is a Cream Legbar pullet I am hoping to show. She hasn't reached POL yet so she is young, only about 5 to 5.5 months old. She still has some filling out to do.

The only thing that will be pointed out for sure is that her crest could stand to be a bit bigger. I like her a lot!

That is a double edged sword I think. My pullets and hens with big beautiful crests have horridly twisted combs. To get a straighter comb I think the crest suffers a bit. And thank you! I like her too. She is a pretty girl even if she doesnt bring home a ribbon. :)

It doesn't bother me but has bothered some people that get my eggs. A LOT of people think a blood spot is the beginning of a chick. I assured them it is not and remind them even grocery store eggs have blood spots and there are no roosters in those hen houses.

so you are saying those egg with blood in them are not fertile . Ah ,haven t see it in my flock .
I have to ask Monique about it .because me I have no clue .

They're still beautiful, molting or not. I love all the colors!

breeding chooks with different color pattern give rise to wonderful and colorfull roosters .
the hens lay eggs
Rooster s look s good

I have 6 roosters pens .most of them are kept for they colors that all . I ll breed from them if I have too .

No... I am saying blood spots are not the beginning of a chick. People that don't own chickens think a blood spot is a baby chick beginning to form. A fertile egg could have a blood spot or not. A blood spot has nothing to do with fertility. Fertility is the bullseye on the yolk.

Every breed has some part of the standard that is harder to reach. I think it is the comb with CLB. I had beautiful crests and terrible combs. I think a good crest pushes the comb into an S.
