International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Is this red unusual in chicks? It was the C 8 chick I assisted. @kfelton0002 View attachment 1340361

Chooks man has said it is a sign of purity in the line and is good. The only chick I have produced with a brown spot was a pure FRF (line B) and it was a pullet. I think it got killed free ranging before I could tell much about it but she wasnt mossy. If this chick is line C that makes sense because it is an F2 and carries genes from line B on both sides. Definitely tag it so we can see how it turns out.

This is #8, the mother of your chick with the brown spot. @shepherd6567

This was when she was a pullet, her comb is bigger now.

I have been outside deciding which cockerels to keep and moving the culls to another pen. Wish I had rehomed Tony2 a long time ago, he is a pain. He will be gone this week. Almost 5 months. Some pics:

Number 2 pick
His tail is higher than I would like but I can't throw him away..... way too nice.

These must have been the chicks covered in brown spots!

I love your keeper cockerels! So beautiful!

I'm curious to see if the brown spotted chick turns out overcolored. Maximus has very little copper leakage on his chest and #8 doesnt have a lot of copper in her hackle so it will be interesting to see what the chick looks like. Could be a throw back from the FRF line if there is a correlation between the brown spot and copper leakage. Heaven knows they come with tons of color. Lol

I have about 5 cockerels that are really nice. Very hard to pick them so I narrowed it down to 4 out of the 7 and I hope they don't change in the wrong direction and the culls don't become beautiful. I was thinking about keeping the best cull just to see what happens but I have never had a cockerel get better. I think it is there from the start or it isn't. I will take too much color over some of the other flaws.
