International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Cant help it! When you got it, you gotta flaunt it! Lol

My blue coppers are some of my favorites right now. Black coppers were my first Marans love, but I've been admiring my blue coppers more these days. It's the lacing.. just can't help myself. You never forget your first love though, so the black coppers need not be jealous. :D
I agree, they are some gorgeous birds. It looks like your doing something right. Here are a couple young blue coppers of mine that i belive are going to have good lacing.

Thank you! Your two pullets are lovely too! You're right, their lacing is very nice. I prefer the look of the darker blues like those. That's why I like to breed black to blue. The black keeps the blue from being too light and puts a nice dark edging on the feathers. So pretty! :)

I just lost a pullet. I recently lost a hen so..... I have a predator. I heard a horrible racket this evening, walked up to the coop, didn't see anything but at head count I was one pullet short, of course it wasn't the crazy pullet either.

Aww I'm so sorry! I hate when that happens. Set a trap and take the varmint out. I caught the last possum with a cheeseburger in a live trap, but they love sardines, tuna, and canned cat food also.

You'll lose the ones you dont want to lose before you lose the culls. I could have a flock of one eyed, one legged, roach backed squirrel tailed birds with one nice chicken free ranging, and the nice chicken would get killed before anything else. That's the way it goes. :(

Nobody wants to eat an ugly chicken.

Here is the little cockerel who got injured a few weeks ago. He is completely healed now. I doubt his neck where he was injured will feather in all the way because of the scar tissue, but its not very noticable unless you're looking for it. His eyes are marbled also. If he ends up looking good otherwise when he matures he may still end up being a keeper, if nothing else a spare. You never know at this age. They can go from nice looking to hideous nearly overnight. For now I will call him Skint.. get it??

his eyes are not so bad. I have a pullet with marbled eyes. much worse.

I let my blue coppers out to free range today. Here is one of the cockerels. He's starting to color up on his back some. Its hard to see in the pictures but he has new copper feathers coming in.
