I know it's frustrating, I'm on my 4th or 5th different bloodline now. And I'm not sure they are going to be much better than my past lines, I've got a bunch of mossy chicks so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed. That's marans, they are a tough breed to love, especially if you know what your looking at. Ignorance is bliss.
Yes it's pure white but i don't think it's suppose to be. She came off a black and blue so i would think splash but she's pure white, no other color anywhere. I'm going to let her grow out and see how she turns out. They look really good! I love your big brooder area. Is that last one a white Marans or just a really white looking splash? So pretty!! And your dog is gorgeous! My sister and her husband have 2. We had one a few years back and he was a chicken killing machine. There was no training him so we rehomed him.
I think so too, I'll let them grow out and pair them accordingly. Out of 40 chicks 12 where mossy. And you can tell them by looking at the chest. I won't breed from them, they will go straight to the layer flock.I get a ton of mossy black coppers from my line B so I broke the trio up. I'm going to grow out the best male to put with my Redbanks pullet in hopes to help the mossy issue. Like literally 3 out of 4 chicks are mossy from that trio and the cockerels have badly overcolored chests. I'm trying to improve the overcoloring. If their type is good, the overcoloring can be worked out with balance and culling. I can handle a little color on the chest but not completely saturated with it. I'm sure you'll have some nice birds to work with out of them.![]()
Thank you! This helps me make a difficult decision to rehome my flock to someone that just wants them for egg layers. I just can't breed these birds knowing I could pass on the yellow legs. Very sad days!
@kfelton0002 I was thinking about our RB birds. Yours are about 2 weeks older than mine and mine have matured faster. Pullets came to POL sooner, etc. Has to be the cold weather you have.

He has beautiful Marans! He is a super nice guy too!Aww Im so sorry you are rehoming them. I sure you will have better luck with your chicks from Harvey Moore. His blue copper marans are absolutely amazing! You wont be disappointed!![]()
Let me rephrase that, i had blacks and blues in the same pen of both sexes, the parents could be blue × blue. I had all my last flock penned together and hatched some eggs for a friend of mine. I didn't have them penned for breeding just hatched some eggs off a whim, so she could be splash but I'm not sure. I kept her so i could see what happens with her.A black and a blue would not throw a splash. So she is a white sport (recessive white). Looks like you can start on your own line of white marans! I'm so jelly!!![]()
