International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

advice about fencing: if your property is too big you can choose the area for the chickens to roam and fence it. I guess they will still have enough room and it costs less.

I saw ravens near the property I bought. hopefully no hawks near ravens!

I am waiting for the bloody paperwork (takes too looooong) before I get the permit to build the house and move. I will rent a house in the village and as soon as I get water I will fence the property and start making chicken coops. I still haven't decided how to get organized. it is too hot and no trees so I need a big shelter.

I have roos of different breeds and I don't think they would live together in piece. I might start filling my freezer camp. just an idea but I am not sure if I will be able to do that, lol.

I have American and Old English Games so they cant roam. Lol. We have to keep the cock birds spread out tied to barrels to keep them from killing each other. Breeders are single and trio mated so all that takes up a lot of space. Our barrels and pens, plus my hen house and brooders cover over an acre that we need to fence. We fenced about a third of that for the dogs and still have the rest to go.

So far he's looking good! He still has some filling out to do yet but he looks like he is going to be a nice bird. He looks to be standing upright in the picture so make sure when you take more pics from different angles that the birds are relaxed and positioned in their natural position.

When taking pictures I find its best to get down on the ground by the birds and take pictures from the front, rear view, side view, and pictures from up above of their backs.

Thanks. I meant to post those on the discussion thread instead of this SOP thread. I will not be showing my birds, and maybe not even breeding any more of them. But may sell some eggs if they turn out ok.

This not a thread for breeding Marans for show exactly, but the standard of perfection is our goal when breeding Marans. If you want to post pictures of your birds so we can check them out, feel free to do so. We're all friends here and welcome new members, whether you are an exhibition breeder or a small backyard hobbyist. :)

If you plan on breeding and selling eggs it would be beneficial to brush up on the standard so you know the stock you are breeding and selling at least meet the high points of the standard.
