International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

her back is long enough but is fluffy . too much fluff on her saddle (cushioned back )

i like her face .really cute . she will be well pretty when her comb is fully formed.

because she have extra black plus minimum copper on her hackle and fluffy back I ll mate her to CLAUDE ( he s golden color will balance the extra black )
plus Claude has a better back and tail that what she need.

I thought Claude too! I see a lot of hens with the extra cushion is that a common fault?

stunning in every thing except the color of her hackle ( Straw ) we need to wait and see the comb..

Because of the gold we are looking for the Red copper rooster with a darkest possible Shoulder ( really mahogany ) Antonio will be her best much.

I am beginning to understand the theory..... now if I can actually bring it to realization. I can't wait to start putting them together and seeing what I get.

yeah is comment with a large breed. loose feathers type.

we have to keep them tight . Guess a same with a feathers shank we ll always have some with more and others without .

I have a lot of this fluffy type coming out of my Birchen line .

Marans is all about BALANCE .

if a cockerel at age about 3 months is totally black is he going to remain black?

depend of many factor.
some are early to color up others are late .

you have to wait.

for me the color is the last thing i ll select for . that mean I select from a 6 months and over old cockerel .

for back crossing I ll wait tell the second molt 18 month .

I ll not cross back to the sire or the dam before that age .

I have 10 roosters been waiting around for last year . Good food ( 11% protein ) no sex. they are waiting .

the one s they passed they will breed this season back to they progeny .

that cockerel belong to a friend of mine. he has about 17 different breeds so he must cull hard. I offered my marco (luna's brother) to him as he is much better. marco is 4 mo, his only fault so far is overfeathered feet and a bit looped comb. my friend's hens are mostly black (only 2-3 have a bit dark copper hackles) so the cockerel will be dark for sure and no good for breeding with black hens - right? I am going to check if I can connect my camera to my pc, if I can I will try to get some pics.

My hens have much better leg feathering than the boys.

my luna has very few feathes (her mother had as well) and mario and marco (her father and brother), and another brother I rehomed have bushy feathers on their feet. is that a family thing, girls vs boys, lol.
