International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Chooks man, We have been told repeatedly that if a cockerel has a sprig to get rid of him. So you are telling us we can breed it out of the line. We are quick to throw away our birds because we have been told they are not any good. I think what you are telling us is "No bad chooks..... just bad breeders".

that correct RedBank only bad breeders no bad chooks .

you see a chooks are jungle fowl and they are pretty and correct for the wild type. they have all the traits needed for them to thrive .there is no bad chooks in the wild.

man/woman bred a a domestic chooks that why they have so many faults. So there is not a bad chooks , only bad chooks breeders.

You guys have been told all sort of stuff ,that why you don t have any chooks.empty pens.

I started 3 years ago with shipped fertile eggs and fews ok trios . and now I have 12 varieties ( not all correct but they will be in the future ) If some body tell me kill my chooks ,I ll take him/her to court .

killing a bad chooks doen t take us far in breeding. but working to fix a bad chooks we will have a good chooks in the end of the day . no empty pens.

we have to learn to breed not to kill .

chooks man

we have to do our home work and stop following other all the time .

ChooksMan Thank You for all the information on breeding. I have been taking notes and can't wait to try my hand at some Marans breeding. I have learned a lot of information on this thread. I love the way it is presented. Everyone talks to each other not at each other. We are all treated as equals whether we are learning or have been doing it for several years. It puts us all at ease so we can ask questions without feeling stupid. Can't wait till sprng when I can get some day old or eggs to add to my flock and really start.

on the contrary I need to learn to kill chickens. I am overrun with them and I need space for marans. I still have some room to make 2 new coops but that is the last piece of my property available. I can dream about 10 m2 per chicken, 1,5 - 2 m2 is my maximum. although it is either too hot or too windy here so they usually hide somewhere and don't use all the space. I have noticed that they like to make groups and spend all day long with the chosen company.

it usually is. I hate to say it but you should treat all of them. I didn't and I have hens with damaged reproductive tract. I had IB in my flock.

I fully agree with chickengr .

I ll get ready of it easy . 7 days of Doxyvet or Triple C antibiotic . never lost a chooks because of it. But I never take it lately .
