they are in the laundry room where group 1 used to be before they got moved out .
my first 2 buff marans chicks from White Storm X Birchen hens . I was expecting them .
so White storm has the Db gene and the hens ,they carries the Co gene.So it is only matter of time that HERCULES Junior will show up . fingered crossed .
I like what White Storm is throwing ,great color pattern .
I m so happy that White Storm carry the gene I was looking for .
with this Bd gene and the Co genes I can make a new variety of marans .never bred before . Quail . let see .the Columbian first . I want to have HERCULES back so badly . Best looking rooster I ever had .even he was not as pure as he should be .
Glad to see your columbian project is going well. Beautiful chicks! Can't wait to see pics of them as they grow. I hope you get your Hercules Jr out of them!

The FRF pullet from the other group of BCM's has a smaller comb. I may be able to use her daughters in the future to correct the large combs in the LA line. All of my pullets in the LA line have large combs.
start now ,why loose time when you know what missing and you have the solution .FRF pullet
If I was you I ll make some chicks from her FRF pullet with LA cockerel and keep them a side . try to find just a cockerel from this matting .20 chicks should be enough .
personal opinion .
Hi guys, I am trying to catch upon this thread. New to Marans. Have some little BCM chicks hatching today. So far 8.
Anywhooo, not up to snuff on the acronyms...
Like the above....what's LP, LA, FRF? Are these just personal lines of BCM?
DB
I will stay another year without olive eggers. my only blue egger that started to lay passed away last night. suddenly. she was perfectly well and when she was back to coop in the evening she couldn't walk properly. I put her in the house where her legs got paralyzed or were stretched due to pain. she had tachycardia and spasms so I suspected she got poisoned. with charcoal and plenty of water she vomited but didn't make it. there is no sign of any poison or anything toxic in their coop/run. the other 7 birds that were with her are well. I am not sure what happened to her.
I tried to candle eggs but can see some eggs are dark inside. I have never candled before so I left it alone. I checked in internet and the pics of day 10+ look similar to what I saw, so I just hope.

FRF = Feels Right Farm (Redbanks and I have birds from this line, Feels Right Farm is where our stock was bred. Amanda of FRF originally obtained her stock from Little Peddler and Greenfire Farm.
LA = Louisiana, which is where the breeder lived where I obtained one of my lines. I refer to them as LA to distinguish them from my other line. They are Little Peddler and Bev Davis.
Welcome! Glad you joined our thread. Post pictures of your chicks when they hatch if you want. We always enjoy seeing chick pics.

Right now my FRF pullet is in the pen with Mud (FRF cockerel). I will keep her with him for a few months so I can hatch chicks from them. Later on in the year I may single mate the LA cockerel to the FRF pullet and hatch a few chicks to see what kind of chicks they throw.
I think the FRF line and the LA line could compliment each other well in balancing out flaws. The FRF line could improve the combs of the LA line and improve their breasts. The LA line could improve the high set tails and shorter backs of the FRF line. I will mark chicks of each mating separately of course.
