International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I'm pretty sure two of the three BCM I bought are roos, which is fine. I want to keep one, but this is the only one I could get a pic of. I'll try to get another of the other two sometime

very nice comb . keep it healthy .don t let him fight when he grow up .keep him with a pullets/hens not the cockerels/rooster . you want to keep that comb intact . because it is gorgeous .well serrated .
he is going to big rooster ,his feet are thick and solid ,sign of vigor .

love to see more photos of him as he keep growing .

I breed it out like any other fault .

I always mark a chicks as they hatch .which one has a parasitic white and which ones are clear from it .

I try to keep my Roosters from the chicks that hatched without any parasitic white .

a true way if getting ready from the parasitic white is to breed from the older chooks ,they ones they passed they 2end molt .because at this stage of they life if they are carriers they are going to show it . if they are clear from it ,than they are a true breeders .

to fix all the problems existing in a BCM a person has to breed many different line separately even if they related, and fix each line by breeding out a fault and reinforce the quality . when all that is done ,than this different line could be merged to one or 2 strong line .

Can hens carry parasitic white but not show it?

Can hens carry parasitic white but not show it?

both hen and rooster can carry the parasitic white does appear as white in the chicks faces and other part of they body .
some chooks they always have a white on them but others will molt it out and stay heading tell the 2end molt .that is a time when the white take over and we can see it on the tail .wing and a under fluff as well .

parasitic white is a big problem if bred to any variety except the white .

alot people believe if the BCM chicks are lighter colored ( a lot white on they body ) mean they are going well colored as adult . that is not true .

more marans hatching

1 hatched, 1 hatching, 3 more eggs to hatch. they hatch 1 day in advance. I guess 30 degrees celsius and broody who was sitting almost all the time are to blame for this.

the other broody and her chicks are out for the first time. they all love it. I just had to explain to the youngest cat that we need chicks. the bigger ones didn't try to go near them.

the only language cats understand is to lightly smack their nose and shout: no. repeat it 2-3 times till they get offended and leave. this cat is male, about 8 months old. he was in a very bad shape when he came to me this winter.

3 marans chicks hatched so far. 1 fell into the other chick's shell, just rescued it and help to break some shell. the last one is very weak. it managed to break the shell but not the membrane. I have just made a small hole in the membrane and broke some shell so that it can breathe and hopefully hatch. I will check them later again. no sleeping for me tonight (it is 23:15 pm).

5 chicks hatched! 100% hatch rate.

they had some boiled yolk and when I wanted to take a pic of them all of them were under their mom

do you feed your chicks from the first day? I put some chicken starter (non gmo), sesame seeds and boiled yolk. I also put some honey and a drop of acv in their water.
