International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Hazel laid her first egg this afternoon. It's not very dark, and it's small. Hoping she will lay darker, bigger eggs as she matures, but still excited to get my first marans egg!

praying for you! there are nice spots on the egg so the next egg should be darker.

So my Marans is laying finally. @Chooks man you were absolutely correct about her comb being bad, it has since flopped over but she laid some nice eggs. I was confused and not sure if she was laying or my welsummer but today I witnessed her laying this single egg pictured here. Im still not sure if the other brown eggs are from her or from my welsummer. The egg today (the single dark brown one) was less mottled/speckled and darker. The picture with all the dark eggs in a row, I know for sure the last one (dark and smallish) came from my Marans, what do you think of the others? Marans? or Welsummer? Maybe because she is a new layer they start off speckled and the size varies??? My first flock so still learning. Im going to try to insert the pictures but may have to do in a separate post.

That last pictures is just for reference. blue/green=cream legbar, tan/pink=barred rock, all new layers so small eggs. I also posted one picture of my Marans for reference.
So excited my hens are laying!

New to this and just finished catching up on all the posts here and have a question.
Can someone please explain what FRF and LA mean? Im assuming these are abbreviations of certain line and/or breeder?

her first egg is lighter but has a lot dark dots .
she ll lay darker eggs than that for sure as the low of nature ,because she has a dots.
the first one is always lighter but the color will pick up
to know if the pullet carry the right amount of dark egg genes .you have to wait tell she lay her first 30 eggs .
this first 30 eggs are a true indicator of the true genetic make up of the pullet.

this is very important .the first 30 eggs determine if the pullet is a breeder or a layer .it is a period where I select my future breeders .

Merrymouse your pullet is gorgeous. I have also noticed my young pullets don't seem to have the best combs. One of my LP's is starting to flop. Kinda bummed about it. Your eggs are so beautiful!! Happy for you.

very nice egg .well colored for her first egg .

I can not tell if the rest of the eggs are marans or Welsummer .

I can tell from the last photos .the 2 small egg on the out side look marans to me OVAL .

FRF and LP are just names of the farms or the line .
