International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Hi Chooks man,,

May I ask you if I mated splash*splash=?
Birchen*black=?
White*splash?
What's the color of there eggs and chickens?

Or any one can help pleas let me know, because I have these marans colors.

now it is a time to explain the White marans X splash marans = ?
here we dealing with many factor .
1) Dominant White or a recessive white ?
2) dominant White silver based or golden based ?
3) Recessive White . what family genetic come from ( E. ER ,EWh , e+ ) silver based or golden based ? because the recessive white is just a plumage not a true variety .just a jacket .
4) True splash E/E Bred from a true black ( silver based or golden based ) or a Splash copper ER/ER . bred from a black copper or a Birchen population =?

let me know what sort of marans chooks are you working with so I can help you ?

I give you just one example to see how complex is this crossing .
let say your White are recessive white come from a BCM ( ER/ER . s+/s+. c/c ) and you splash are Splash copper ( ER/ER . s+/s+) .this is a simple crossing = F1 progeny all Blue copper Split white ( carrying a white )
when we bred those F1 between them selves = we get a F2 progeny all sort of colors
around 6 % true splash copper
12.5% splash copper split white
12.5% Blue copper
25% blue copper split white
25% pure white .all sort of white ( white plumage over Black copper .White plumage over Blue copper etc...........)
6.5% pure Black copper
12.5% Black copper split white

hope I gave you an idea how thing work . not simple at all .

photos of your marans chooks and they story please . Marans in Kuwait is not some thing we hear about every day .
I m pleased you brought your question to this thread . hope I was helpful

I prefer the ugly hens with the ability to lay dark eggs in my pen ,rather than the pretty one with light egg .

definitely the cockerel is going over his Dam for sure .he has a perfect body color ( what we need from the Roo) and she lay dark egg ( what we need from the hen)
the prettiness has to come from some where else in the future .
you have a chance to breed your own line of colorful BCM with dark egg ability .
breed the prettiness separately from different line ,than joint them in the future ,to create your own correct line .

all the best

Sounds like a good plan. Like you said, the pretty can come later. I will be working to get everybody penned and situated where I need them for breeding. It will be a few months before the cockerel is old enough to breed, and his dam is mid molt and not laying right now anyway but as soon as I can I will start hatching eggs from them. :)

this dude is a pure white . love evry thing about him .

do you have a white pullets ?
if you don t have than it is better to breed him with a Birchen pullet.
the silver will keep the white pure

Tomorrow (or maybe next week) I can get some pictures of my Black Copper Marans cockerel (the one I showed you , Chooks man) to see what you guys think of him.

that is good ,
nice to breed the white together to keep them pure . like you said they are very rare .

when you hatch a good number from them .I can show you how to breed them with the other varieties to start a new line of white of your own .
