Ok, Lets shoot from the heart. I am having a difficult time figuring out where I am going with my flock. Body type is where I am starting. Also working on adding copper to my girls. I just had one of my pullets lay her first egg and I am very happy with the color. I think it's the darkest I have gotten so far. I guess I am torn between the two sets of standards being I am in the U.S. I don't know if anyone else feels this way. Me and my flock are in limbo. I am also not sure if I want to go with Black Copper. I am leaning towards Blue Copper. Any input would be awsome! Thank you!
What are the differences in the US and French SOP? I didn't think there were any except points on a comb. US wants 5, French don't care. My advice..... don't worry so much, chicken mistakes take less time to fix than any other livestock. Mistakes are the best way to learn. Black Copper, Blue Copper, keep working.... your path and passion will become clear. You will get a lot of good advice and guidance here, I am the least qualified to give you breeding advice but I can give you some advice from my experience. You have already accomplished a lot, keep learning and keep trying.

Well look what I found! These where pictures taken back the end of march. Back before my BC rooster lost his tail. He was shipped before Christmas 2016. That would make him 4 to 41/2 months old in these pictures. That would make him 1 year old now. He was in the batch of chicks that I had shipped from Julie. That would make him and the light hens pure Bev. So would he be a good one to use over the two light hens?

I am not sure but I think there are differences in the tail. I think the U.S. calls for more open tail. I think the french is more upright pointy. To be honest I don't know. I hope chooks man will come on and clear this up.

I agree with Chooks man. What I plan on doing to keep from diluting the blue of my blue coppers out too much, I will always breed a black copper to blue copper so that the blue doesnt get washed out. I currently have one of my black copper males over my favorite blue copper pullet. I love the rich copper color of your black copper male also. And he has a small amount of color on his breast so he will probably produce pullets with nicely colored hackles. I would definitely use him if he has a nice tail once it comes back. Your blue copper male is lovely also and would pair very nicely with your black copper females.
I am thinking that BCM rooster over the three light hens. Then I just read on one thread it's best to use a dark blue not to use a black unless you have to. I am so confussed. chooks man, What is your thought on this? Will both work?
