International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

just sharing some of my year old birds. A son of Jack, grandson of Jake, I'm calling him Jackson. He's my Reeves line birchen Marans. He's 12 months old now. The splash is a greenfire line, and she's 16 months old silver splash (for blue birchen breeding)
Jackson has a hilarious squeaky crow!

Omg I wish my roo sounded like that!!! It's death metal rooster up in here (google it and you'll see what I'm talking about). At 4 am till about 9. Every morning.

This not a thread for breeding Marans for show exactly, but the standard of perfection is our goal when breeding Marans. If you want to post pictures of your birds so we can check them out, feel free to do so. We're all friends here and welcome new members, whether you are an exhibition breeder or a small backyard hobbyist. :)

If you plan on breeding and selling eggs it would be beneficial to brush up on the standard so you know the stock you are breeding and selling at least meet the high points of the standard.

Thanks for the welcome.

@kfelton0002 here are the pics of the ones with inverted combs. The first pic is of the brown spotted chick. Surprisingly She turned out to be a pullet, but more than that is that her comb grew out of the inversion and is 100% normal. She’s also the one I assisted in the hatching. The second is another pullet and her comb is getting better all the time but I don’t think it will ever grow out of it. The third is my biggest cockerel, and I mean BIG. Love his size but his comb will most likely cull him out.

Edited to correct my post because of the way my pics posted. The first bird pic’ed is really my second bird described in my post.

Wow that looks crazy wicked! Ive never seen a comb like that before! Lol. Yeah definitely cull him! And the pullet that grew out of it will probably be okay to use if she looks good otherwise. The pullet that hasnt grown out of it I would use her as a layer only.

My Reeves line has had inverted Combs before. Just this spring I had a Cockerel get one, but luckily he outgrew it. I had previously culled two other Cockerel for it about 3 years ago before it cropped up again, along with carnation comb ( king's comb, I've heard it called too) but we are working with what we have.

My first BCM's had coronation combs an yellow legs! Laid very dark eggs, this is a very bad gene pool! I culled them all and bought birds from Brian Parks, Little Peddler and Bev Davis lines. Much better birds. Have a lot of White in wings and too much copper in the males. It is all about balance. This is my third year and my goal is first to maintain egg color and breed out those white feathers. TOM
