Would that last one be a blue tail buff jose? Do you got pictures of the hens? Here's a couple pictures of my black tailed buff chicks. The are also going up need alot of work, but i think they will be one of my favorites.

I got a couple older ones i'll have to get pictures of also. And still more btb and Columbian eggs coming to hatch. They won't be the best of the best but atleast i'll have the genes to work with.

As you can see hatch down isn't quite right.

I can see they hatch down is lighter ,more of wheaten colour yellow .
tag the chicks with a redish hatch down ,and breed from them in the future .

can you post some photos of the parents stock when you have spare time please .

I have an open pen for cocks now since I've retired my old legbar hens. They just weren't fertile anymore, some we're pushing 6-7 years old, youngest was 3 or 4, new batch of girls in growout pen. But this means that big Jackson will be the only cock covering the Marans hens now, so I'm hoping for more color! I'm going to be doing some construction so I can build more breeding group pens for smaller groupings this spring once the ground thaws and the mud dries

View attachment 1706018 I figured out why the front and sides of their hackles always look bad by spring. The bored hens eat the feathers!

yes they do .
I personally pull those type of hens out of the breeding pen. those type of hen are trouble and they progeny as well .

too much rain those days can t take a lovely photos .wait tell the sun come back again ,we needed this rain .

well happy about them . especially the Dominant white . they are my super stars . love them all . looking forward to breed from them . many varieties will rise from them when the dominant white gene is removed . hard work but worth it .love challenges
