International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I just wanted to save their combs from freezing. Every year the roosters combs freeze. Even with bedding and plastic on the windows. We get below 0 temperatures. I learned my lesson though. I won't do it again. I will be forced to do a later hatch from my two BC. They haven't started laying yet. I am hoping they get better.

they will adjust . hope they legs get better soon.

Chooksman, I still have two extra Blcm hens that I kept in a pen with the original rooster. Should I hatch any from them as a backup? I also have one BC hen that had the longer tail. I haven't moved her out of Nimbus pen yet. She is laying. Black pullets eggs in picture.

she is very nice . tail a little longer but good shape and angle . love her rectangular body type . she will do well with both cockerels .

And the second hen.

She jumped up next to me after I let number 52 down as he decided to jump on the back of my feet as I was walking out of the pen. she is also not happy as she is a little hot. I finished the outside pens just after this and now they can go out where it is a lot cooler

This rooster in the pictures is the original rooster I never got rid of him. I kept him just in case I lost one of the others. The two BLCM hens in pictures are also two extra hens I kept as back up just in case. What do you think of them?

Yes eventually. finally found another breeder that I liked the looks of their flock and they are shipping eggs to me on Monday. I have a feeling it will be next year sometime before I finally can make up breeding pens though.

Thank you Chooksman! I just want a back up plan. If those two BC hens don't come out of it. It would be nice to hatch a few from them. I have more eggs to go in Incubator. I believe I have 6 from original hen. She is in with Blaze.
