I still have to get more photos of chick#1 not under the red light, but I’m not home right now. Had to drive my husband to the hospital as he scratched his eye at work or something. Not sure what yet.

I know this hatch is not over yet, but I’m feeling kind of discouraged. If these are all the chicks I get it was a pretty dismal hatch rate. 3 Faverolles our of 9 and 4 Marans out of 27 eggs! I see no signs of any more pips or any movement at all.

Ok i just got them. Feeling kinda discouraged. Only one, the first one looks like a breeder bird. The others have way too much white on them!

Chick#2
This one has a lot white but I like his body type chunky plum with shorter legs well feathered .
Hatch down colour is not main factor when selecting chicks . Body type always first .

This one was the last to hatch and has a bit of a curled foot so it’s not wanting to stand a lot. It can stand and does walk but I think it was in the shell to long or maybe malpositioned. All of the Marans pipped on the wrong end of the egg.
It is a hard work for the chicks to break the egg shell. Give him a few days he should be alright.
