International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

It’s -2f here this morning. I haven’t been out to check on the birds in person for a few days do to being sick with Covid. My wife had been taking care of feeding and watering. I have been watching them from the coop camera everyone looks to be healthy as far as I can tell.

1 degree F here, -14 wind chill but it's just the start of this cold snap.
One of the girls is going thru a bad molt, and they've on coop lockdown for 2 days now. I'm going to set up the brooder plate for her today so hopefully she can hunker by it for a little warmth.

In other news, I took Raven out yesterday cause she looked so much better towards lunch time. She melted right back in to the rest with minimal bullying from the older girls which we know is typical. She bounced around all day flapping her wings and wagging her tail. At roost time Angel huddled right up next to her for the night.
All is right in the world again... 🥳
Awesome! I am glad Raven is better. I think we have a couple more days of this and then it's supposed to warm up a little I think it was saying 10 degrees low Wednesday then slowly worming up. We had -1 this morning wind chill factor -25.

I hope you are feeling better soon. They all look good! What kind of camera do you have? I have been thinking about getting one. Is it on all the time? Could you give me information on it? Thanks 😊

I believe I’m past the worst of the illness. The camera is an Arlo brand it works well enough but it requires a monthly subscription if you want anything more than the basic features. When the free trial ran out I didn’t renew the subscription so it is live viewing only. I can’t look at things after they have happened.

Here is a thread I opened when I first installed the cameras with some pictures and more information. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/arlo-security-camera-black-friday-sale.1603948/

I went outside to check on things this afternoon and found my heated drinker bucket was frozen and not dispensing any water. The water itself was still liquid but the nipples were frozen. I don’t know hour long the birds have been without water. I filled one of my other drinkers and put it inside the coop so they could get a drink.

They all ran to get a drink so they must have been without water for a while. I really didn’t want to keep water inside but I figured water in the coop is far better than no water at all. Hopefully they don’t get too bad of frostbite because of it. I’ll take the water out at bedtime and bring them fresh in the morning.

Oh, I hope not! I hope you got pictures of them. I didn't even get pictures of my cockerels. The cockerels have been in an inside section all winter. I hope they don't lose their combs either. I have been giving them some scratch. I also gave them fresh collard greens before the snow fell. Now I can't get to the greens. When I went out to water. It felt like my lungs where freezing. It wasn't that cold when I fed 4 degrees but now they are saying it was - 25 F wind chill factor. I must have broken a blood vessel in the white of my one eye after watering all of them yesterday. It hasn't affected my site because it's in the white. My eye is looking some better today. It is a really dry cold. The snow is eerily crunchy even though it just fell and it is fluffy.
It was -40 at my parent's house. I am just glad the wind isn't blowing much, but it is truely -20 outside here, down to -30, even a breath of wind can be dangerous. The only skin exposed is my nose and eyes. You build up a cache of special winter gear here for outdoor work. My auto waterer pipes froze during a power outage so I am stuck bucketing for the horses and goats until we thaw enough to unfreeze the pipes, it is near impossible to thaw them at -20 when outdoors. At least the puck heater in the waterer still works.
