People often think that English marans are just clean legged French marans. This is not the case. To me, they are almost different breeds. For example, you cannot call a clean legged (often hatchery quality) BCM ‘English type’, as this colour simply does not exist in the UK standard.
This drawing highlights the differences between the two. It makes it annoying as obviously in the only one aiming for the English type, while helping people aim for the other, but I kind of appreciate the English standard’s unnecessary disapproval of the French standard, even if they invented them.
it’s one way I actually disagree with Chooksman’s posts, as he called any clean legged marans English type, regardless of type or colour. I realise, however, that this might be a strange result of the Australian Marans club allowing both types and most colours, rather than him being wrong.
