Internet Censorship Bills-SOPA & PIPA

I don't think it could happen with websites like these.

Or Congress will find a group of very very unhappy citizens.

From what and old German gentleman told me 40 years ago when I was a kid the German and Polish citizens said pretty much the same thing about......well you know what happened from 1939 to 1945.....nuff said!

First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak out because I was Protestant.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

You got it Reb!

What people do not understand is that yes round one would be pirates.
Round 2 would be places like youtube.(I make money on youtube)
3 would be tab websites like mine along with other information sites like wikipedia
4 would be ad networks like google

Number 4 is the one that breaks the internet. Almost every website on the internet is payed for my ads so what survives 1 threw 3 will die with 4.

All that will be left is the stuff that asks you for your credit card number.

SOPA has been withdrawn.. however PIPA is still alive and well

SOPA isn't completely dead however, it appears to just be getting a little redesigned. http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2012/01/16/so-is-sopa-dead-not-exactly/

I agree, we still need to focus on PIPA though.

Exactly. It can happen to anyone anywhere. You always think it won't happen to you, but it can. even in America, unfortunately.

I'm all against piracy whether it's movies, music, or Ebooks. But this bill is just so much more than that. I make money on YouTube as well, and I'm kinda sad to see that Google/YouTube isn't don't more against the bill seeing as YouTube will be one of the most threatened sites if PIPA passes. Wikipedia has officially gone dark for the day though, and Google has a redesigned logo.

I edited my first post and added this:

As stated by Wikipedia:

Quote: Emphases added because that is exactly what applies to us!

BYC is "big enough" to be a target, but small enough not to be able to defend ourselves in a huge battle. BYC is an amazing resource because of our "user contribute content" and we shouldn't be, and can't be expected to police 7,000+ posts per day. Can you imagine the burden that would put on us? We'd definitely have to close our doors!

Call your elected officials and tell them you are their constituent, and you oppose SOPA and PIPA.

Go to Wikipedia's English site and put in your zip code and call your officials: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

I'm glad you mentioned Minecraft/Mojang. I have been on their forums lately and there are a lot of unhappy people.
Also, Wikipedia will have a lot of people going there and finding out about it. That's how I found out about this, I was trying to research Singapore(I'm going there soon!), and I wasn't able to.
I may be from Australia, but this will effect me quite a bit.
Surely, with this many people against it, it can't go through. I think a very small minority actually likes the idea.
Good luck everyone!
