I figured the setup would allow for decent fresh air and heat control. They were sleeping but the moment I got near they all got up and started running around.

Yes isn't this humidity awful! It's all this rain and flooding! I have fans on too and getting ready to set up more! it's hard to breathe for us and the turkeys are getting aggressive about it.

I understand the fan now and that shouldn’t be a problem. The warmest part of the brooder should be about 85-90 degrees ( for the age of your chicks) each week reduce it by about 5 degrees. Post some pics of your set up and maybe we’ll have some suggestions for you.

I have two photos uploaded in one of my prior replies. The dead center where the light is pointed sits between 91-93f now that I have been using the fan to regulate temps and fresh air. They hang out anywhere but the middle. It is a long pen so I figure there is a decent heat gradient throughout.

I had considered a box or something with solid walls but the humidity and heat here will push it well above 99f inside of one.
 
I did a bit of a temp check and here are the brooder temps: right side behind the light 88f, center under light 91f-93f, left side where they sleep right around 89f.

Side note: Why are these little girls obsessed with throwing 90% of their food out of the bowls...(sarcasm/joke) I know they are just scratching at their food but damn, what a waste lol.
