Is anyone starting eggs in the incubator today? Tuesday, May 26

Thanks for the help. I did look at a couple of the brown eggs and they appeared to have a "blob" in them, but I am inexperienced so I didn't want to get my hopes up about those. I will try again in another week to week & 1/2 to see what I can find. By then I will need to move some out if they are bad to make room for the new eggs that will be here. Otherwise, I have an excuse to go get another incubator.

You know you may want to check on freecycle because people give away all kinds of stuff & maybe look on Craigslist too...

And of course there's always the home made bators....

Miss Prissy has made some really great bators...

For the turning, i read 2 to 3 times a day. But it is all an experiment for me anyway. Just the second time. Next time i will buy an egg turner.
I have 3 dark eggs. Delaware and Rhode islands. So for me too it will be hard to candle them too. I use a flash light for candling, not too good. I heard light pen are good.
Anyways,i am exited!!!

All my eggs are white, green, and I have one blue. I will try to candle tomorrow night. I have been trying hard to not do anything but make sure they are turned. Patience is something I do not have lol.

LOL Frenchy I have to tell you I think it was after my 2nd try that I got the egg turner with another bator....

It's an illness really. I do know what you mean with this being an experiement. The duck eggs are the same for me here really. As for the flash light method of candling have you put the light inside a box with a whole cut just large enough for the end of the egg? That's how I do it & I turn off all the lights. I just stay really still with them 7 that's when it'll move kind of like a lava lamp. I've trouble seeing the air sac that everyone speaks of. by the time the 12th day rolls around what I'm looking at seems like the whole upper portion of the egg filled with a blob & the bottom tip that is I guess sztill liquid. The white eggs I have in the bator that are duck eggs I noticed the other day just putting my hand behind the egg I could sort of see the outline of the yoke. That's a new one for me. Actuallly now that I'm thinking about it I thought I should go & try to see what I'm suppose see because I know one of them had a red dot in it last night & I'm hoping it's not a blood spot. Of course blod spot or not I won't toss anything until I'm sure.

Carey34 one would think we'd all learn patience but I don't think any of us will every be good "waiting".

HAHAHA yes i get that from my kids too" they are hatching....now?"Also "can i see the eggs?..because i keep them locked!...my 6 year old turned the thermostat down the last time and it took me a while to put it back perfect.... I will try with the box to candle them, that's too cool!

When I told my daughter that it would take 3 weeks to hatch them, I was thinking 3 weeks is a fairly short time. Of course, her response was "3 whole weeks!!!!"

And her mouth drops open like that is forever.

I just candled all my eggs. I am on day 9 now. I could actually see something moving around in a couple of them. It was so cool!

Out of 18 eggs in the incubator, I took out 6 that I didn't think were fertile. I cracked them open over the trash and none of them were. They were all clear with a regular yellow yolk. This definitely boosts my confidence in my candling skills. All of these were from the eggs my husband got from a friend who free ranges his chickens, so that's probably the reason they were infertile. The other 11 all looked like they had embryos in them.

I also had to take out one other because it had a raised area & dark area on the shell. I just didn't feel right about putting it back in the incubator. I have asked about that one here:

I candled tonight!! I had 4 that were clear so not fertile and 3 that had very noticable blood rings. So I am now down to 18 eggs. I am very excited tho because all 18 had very visable veins!! and and and the blue egg is one of those so all and all I am wicked happy!!
