Is anyone starting eggs in the incubator today? Tuesday, May 26

mom2chicksandpups you have to do what you think is right & you did. When I have to do those things I try really hard not to 2nd guess myself. I did go and read your other post & while I haven't been doing this long I have hatched a few batches now & I've never seen that...

Is anyone dying yet!!! This is taking for ever!
I am a little scared of candling tomorrow. I set up a diaper box:D with flash light to candle. I hope i have babies!

Can my hens join in this thread? I have contagious broody disease here and three of them are sitting on 3 eggs that were set with the original broody on the 25th. We are adding an addition on our house and I haven't even taken the time to figure out when they are due to hatch.

The hens are killing me - sometimes its one hen on all three, other times its one egg a piece.

I have three other broodies - one of them has all the eggs that were set on 5/29, then there are eggs that were set on 6/7.

Ok all of the eggs I've got in the bator. I checked all of the brown eggs & I think I've got all moving blobs. I'm not too sure about a few of them & they are REALLY taking up the shells so cross your fingers all huh?

The duck eggs I have not checked yet though I'm going to do that in just a bit. They looked REAL good last week & so I'm just hoping that having stayed the course would see them through......

Anyway I'll check back later to let you all know about the duck eggs & I'm moving the chick eggs I think Sunday to the other bator for hatching.

pbjmaker of course your hens can join the group & I hear you honey. Maybe do it this way. As some eggs start to hatch & the hen decides to take the baby out then you pick up the eggs left & move them to the next hen....

That's what I just did today. there was 1 egg left today under the hen that decided she was taking her 3 hatched chicks out into the yard...... so I have another broody girl who's on just 1 egg & so I took the left over from the first hen & slipped it next to the other broody. She pecked me & swooped up the egg asap.

There is a thread some where here when the first chick was hatched *a week ago yesterday* I knew that egg was ahead of the others but I didn't think it would have lasted the time the hen had been off of it. Anyway the other chicks did not hatch until 6 days later.... I'd just set the hen up in the coop with food & water so she could take the first chick out & she stuck it out that long. I had not figured the hatch dates on any of them except I'd set other eggs in the house & I'd hatched out some prior & so I had a ball park as to the when... this last hen was a few days later & so that's why I figured on the off chance that other egg was going to hatch I'd put it under the one still on the nest. Anyway there was such a gap in between hatching eggs I was freaking out a bit.

Oh & there's a video of my hen that took her chicks out today on "raising chicks" the title is somthing like "video of mom & chicks" that will REALLY get you excited...

I might do that. This is the second time around for broody for some of these guys. Their babies are about 10 weeks old now and I guess they thought they just grew up too fast

I do have all the eggs marked as to which day they started setting. One new broody silkie has got down right vicious and I have caught her pushing my poor little naked cochin off the other nest and taking allllllll the eggs.

I should get some eggs in the mail today and am going to set up my little naked bird somewhere else to sit. I think she went broody so the boys will leave her alone and she can regrow her feathers.

My first set of eggs is due to be moved to our hatching incubator Saturday night. The chicks inside them are easy to see now and moving around in the eggs! There is no doubt now that there are chicks in there!!

I had already reported on the brown eggs I candled last night & then I candled the white duck eggs on my way to bed. From what I could see they looked pretty good but I must have been a LOT more tired than I thought I was because when I candled them I was not wearing my reading glasses which I need these days to see print or small things i.e. taking out splinters etc. & so last night I was a bit disappointed that I could see what I thought I would but when I woke up this morning & realized my glasses were down stairs & I'd candled without them...... Still the eggs all had moving blobs which I take as a very good sign. I had 3 duck eggs that I think didn't develop & when I move the brown chick eggs on Sunday I'll candle the duck eggs again (Making sure to wear my glasses) & toss anything that isn't right. Oh & the brown eggs go on lock down on Sunday.

I want to see pictures when they hatch! I will definitely be taking pictures of mine.

My daughter also got to see the movement in the eggs and she was so excited. I imagine that will be all she talks about until the chicks actually start hatching.

I'm sorry I'm so addle brained these days did you say you've hatched eggs before? if not when they hatch it is REALLY something to watch! some times they will pip & then nothing for hours & then suddenly you'll go back & they're zipping out.... & at the beginning when they're out at the start I always think "omg that bird is NOT right." & it usually is it's just that they look like prehistoric things that fling themselves wildly all over the incubator. I'm always in awe as I watch them turn into little fluffs within hours....
