Is anyone starting eggs in the incubator today? Tuesday, May 26

So far I have two chicks under my broody. We had to seperate her from the general population this time because one of my d'uccles was very insistent on having the eggs and chicks as her own and she has only been sitting for two days.

There is one blue silkie looking chick (not sure if it's pure but I think it is) and a little black naked neck cross from my show girl and probably one of the cochins.

She still has two eggs to go.

I would love to try guineas sometime just for the giggles myself.

My eggs still move just a bit every now and then, but I have no pips yet. I am only on day 19, but getting so impatient!

These last few days seem to be stretching out much longer than the first 18 days.

I am late joining this thread, and I didn't read all 8 pages, but I remember soooooo well the excitement of that first hatch (and every hatch since then). Good luck!!! And I am praying for you.

A couple of things - someone else may already have told you, but just in case they haven't - Don't be in a hurry to try to help a chick hatch. Some come out really quick and some take hours to hatch. They need to work at it in order to be strong enough to survive. Also, the effort causes them to absorb the yolk sac. This is very important. It gets so tempting to help them, but don't.

Also, try not to open your incubator any more than absolutely necessary. The changing temperatures can affect the unhatched eggs.

I sooooo hope you have what I call "beginner's luck" and your hatch goes exceedingly well. There is so much that can go wrong with an incubator hatch, but nothing is more exciting than that first chick. Keep us posted on how it's going.

Moms2chicksandpups,

There IS a time to help a chick hatch, but it is a very fine line. If you are in doubt, please post it here. I'll try to be watching tomorrow and Tuesday. Perhaps some others who have more experience than I do will be watching too. I HOPE you won't need to even go there, but if you do, maybe we can help. I am praying for you and pulling for you. Wishing you ALL the best!!

Got 2 out....1, i don't like her bottom, maybe not healed.
3 more pocking... Will have pictures when they are dry on my blog.

Walkswithdogs....i told my friend about Guineas and she said...We should try to hatch them also because we really need it for the bugs here and they do eat a lot of bugs.
That looks like they are a lot of fun!!

Yes, let us see the pictures please. I can't wait to see them!

The only thing with guineas is that a relative told me they are very loud. She has some, but they live in the country and don't have to worry about neighbors.

Our city ordinance allows us to have 12 "fowl" on our property. We have more, but are trying to limit how many roosters we get. We are okay as long as none of our neighbors complain.

when a hen sets her mind to something some times there is NO changing it..... The egg I slipped under the other hen who was sitting on another single she'd hatched her first one (I think the one I put under her last) & so I'm still waiting on the next one. I wasn't out in the yard today though to really pay attention we'd actually gone to NYC to see West Side Story..... woo hoo... Anyway tomorrow I move the brown eggs to the hatcher bator & they go on to lock down.
