Over the past three months I've received three separate orders of shipped eggs. Two sets from ebay (11 eggs total) and one set as backup bidder on eggbid.com (66 eggs). Spent about $225 total on eggs and shipping. I have eight babies, total.

With the batch of 66, I tossed 50 eggs after two weeks. Emailed the seller. He was very apologetic and offered to ship me more eggs or hatch out some chicks for me and send those. I chose the chick option and they should ship the first week of October.

So, I'm thinking you take the good with the bad. I've invested a lot, but am going to end up o.k.

Now all I have to do is find a way to get my hands on some BLRW!

Buyer pays shipping and a small handling fee to cover cost of packing materials. I think it's fair for the buyer to pay shipping bc they're the party who chose shipping as the means of getting the eggs. I'm just as happy to allow someone to pick up if they want to forego shipping fees.

I have yet to need to drive to town JUST to mail eggs, so I might only go a mile or two out of my way on a normal commute to school or work to ship. That said, it is a hassle and takes some time out of an already busy morning. I've settled this problem by only shipping on Mondays and Tuesdays. Now I know these are the only two days I have to worry about arranging to ship eggs.

Well here is an update on my chickens. Of the 10 Bantams that I received...ONE PIPPED THIS MORNING (day 21). So out of the 10...maybe I'll get one or two.

I don't think I'm going to whine about the hatch rate, but I do think I'll contact the seller and see if I can get another batch for shipping and handling. I'd like 5 or 6 total.

When you buy hatching eggs and have them shipped through the mail, you're rolling the dice. I don't think it's appropriate to ask a breeder to send additional eggs at a discount when you readily and voluntarily assumed the risk. On a live per-chicken basis, hatching eggs do not make the most financial sense. Day-old chicks are generally a much better deal. It is not at all unusual to have a 20% or less success rate with hatching eggs that prior to shipment were 100% fertile.

If the seller guaranteed a hatching rate (say 12 out of 14 or some percentage) then you have a right to ask for compensation.
If the seller clearly stated that there is NO GUARANTEE then you do not.

I have had very good luck with shipped eggs it seems.

I bought the following from eggbid.
Porcelain d'Uccles
Mille Fleurs
Delaware Blues
Mixed Silkies
Buttercup Bantams

At the moment (all the above in incubators now), I'm having about 80 to 90% fertile/developing rates, except for the Delaware Blues and she said in her ad that her hatch rate was about 50% because she had too many hens for her roo, and on that batch I have about 65% fertility rate right now, so still better than her estimate.

I am using an RCom20 and an Octagon 40, both from Brinsea. I use an LG without the turner as a hatcher.

One box had 3 broken eggs despite excellent packaging and shipping, and it wasn't the sellers fault. Clearly something happened during shipping.

I have been very pleased with all my eggbid purchases so far.

Chooks... let us know how that hatch goes? I had about 20 Millie eggs from Peeps7, and was ecstatic when all of them developed. One hatched. All the others quit before hatching, not even a pip.

I have had horrible, horrible hatch rates and would consider 1 pip of 10 alright. I have spent more $ on eggs than I will admit, and have hatched a total of 6 to date.
