Is he dominant white?

I have this silkie boy. I'm 90% sure his mom was paint and dad was buff (came from a mixed color pen. My guess is based off the photos I was sent).

I really want to breed either paints or bbs. I was thinking I'd keep black hens and 2 roos - one blue or blue partridge and this boy.

I've been trying to figure out his exact color, but I've realized it doesn't really matter as long as I could potentially breed paints from him.

We had rain today and I noticed he has red/buff looking spots. Are these spots similar to how paints have spots, but with buff? Or are they just leakage?

Oh okay, I guess it's like leakage then. Some of the feathers are completely red while most are white at the base. The white feathers are so fluffy they cover the red ones when he's dry.

This is not true.

Recessive white takes all color away so your bird is dominate white. So ya that's what's needed for paint breeding.
Bad news is having a buff in the mix is not ideal. IMO it would be a deal breaker.
With paints you have one copy of dominate white. With one copy it doesn't completely cover black so that's what causes the pattern.
Dominate white doesn't do anything to cover gold/buff tones. So those patches aren't from the effects of the paint pattern exactly. They're leakage on the black pattern under the paint pattern.
With future breeding any and all the gold/buff leakage will continue to show.

A couple of my black hens carry recessive white. Is that a big problem?

It won't be unless/until you bred one with a male that carries it.
Two recessive white genes will always produce a completely white bird.

I did have a black roo that also carried it. He unfortunately died a week ago. 2 out of 5 of his chicks were white. The moms were my 3 black hens. I know 1 of my hens carries recessive white, but I don't know if the other ones do.
