If it wasn't alright to post about family stuff then I guess there wouldn't be a me, my chickens, and my family section. If it irritates a person to read those kind of things then don't read that section.

I find it curiously amusing, that the issue that irritated me the most popped up in this thread, and was one of the most strident voices herein.

The site has a very clear policy on political discussion, but has also taken the view that Political and Religious slogans are ok as part of a sig. or an Avatar.

What you people should understand is that, allowed or not, they irritate the poop out of those who come here to talk chickens and escape from that stuff for a while.

None of you know me very well. One thing you certainly don't know is that, in my life outside BYC I comment and write extensively about politics. I am decently knowledgeable and more than capable of looking after myself.

Here, I relax, and I don't like opening threads and being confronted with images and slogans that bear NO RELATION WHATSOEVER to the subject at hand.

if you put it in me, my chciken, my family ,so they are your family or your chicken, i'm not sure if there are family memebers of their's here but i doubt it. but maybe they're scratchin 'round in your pen ?

I think my issue is that I go into Me, My Chickens, My Family section to find posts about chickens and have to sort through a lot of other stuff to get to them. Maybe "my chickens" should be removed from that and would fall into the "everything else chickens" category. This way it would just be a Me and My Family section and if you don't want to read social stuff you don't have to. Just a thought..and of course, if people could post in the right place, it would be great too.

You might be surprised at what I can ignore. On the other hand, keeping places free from religion and politics is not a new idea. I simply point out that when you seek to introduce those elements into a place like this, you will alienate people who might, otherwise, be quite helpful to you.

A minor point .... but why should I have to wade through other peoples attitudes and bigotries to talk about chickens?

People just want to yell out their affiliations regardless of the sensibilities of others. It's selfish.

I am happy with the PM Terrielacy sent me, and have no intention of puruing the matter .... but if we are having a free and frank exchange of ideas .... well I am all for that
