Is It Normal? (Cockerel/Rooster Behavior)

Bantams crow a LOT quieter than a full sized rooster. I have a couple Bantam Cochin/Chocolate Orp 5 month olds that sound like squeaky toys.

One thing about the no-crow collar, it can kill your rooster. If he tries to eat something large, like a mouse or a frog he could choke and die because the collar won't let the food past. It also needs to be checked at LEAST once a day to make sure it is adjusted properly so it doesn't choke him.

Personally, I think if you don't want crowing, don't get a rooster. The collars lean towards inhumane.

It's actually on him loosely right now. He just can't get it off.
We don't have any frogs in our backyard that he can eat. Our mouser cat, White Socks, actually keeps the mice and rats away.
We don't mind the crowing but the city law states that we can't keep roosters.

We have a rooster that's completely terrified when you go to touch him/lift him from the ground. He'll let you go as far as brushing your hand past his tail. Elsewise, he wants nothing to do with you.
The funny thing though is the following... he'll let you feed him millet from your hand. Strange, eh? He trusts you when you stick your hand in front of him- but not when you carefully talk to him and take the time to begin your friendship.

Treats such as millet and safflower seeds (even sunflower seeds. The price of a half pound bag 'a millet can be a bull) can make a bird hesitant- but after a long and hard think, they may just take the courage to pay you a visit.
That's why treats can work wonders in scenarios such as yours. But then again, what if that ain't the case?

Snatching him up and setting him on your lap with your arm loosely around his wing (for a few days straight) can make him a bit less sketchy.
If someone comes up behind you and grabs your arms, making you rather the opposite of defensive, would you be comfortable? I beg to differ if the answer's yes. Try to think from the rooster's perspective. How would you wanna be befriended if you were that shy?

Good luck and God bless. Hope this info helps you at all.

The bantam Dark Brahma I had was very skittish too.
He would come closer over time and eventually I could feed him raisins and blueberries by hand.
I couldn’t pick him up though but that was okay.
He was a fantastic rooster.
He’s living at a friends house now and the hens just love him.

My current cockerel is a Naked Neck, 5 months old.
I had 3 LF cockerels and 2 bantam cockerels.
The two lowest on the pecking order are now my only males.
They have turned out very well.
My Silkie cockerel would let me pick him up when he was younger and now runs away and won’t let me pick him up for the last month.
He has the funniest cutest crow!
He sounds like a tiny horse neighing.

4 months is still young for a cockerel to guarding and protecting his hens anyway. Its better to have a rooster that is afraid of you. Don't tame him or he will be a nasty one.
