Hi

I was wondering if it is ok to put a dry shower towel in an incubator? I have a few emu eggs and I don't want them to move around in the incubator, and I was just wondering if it is safe and ok to put a dry shower towel in the incubator?

Thank You!

Not ever used a towel before as my thinking would be that it may impede the air flow & heat circulation in the incubator. I do use shelf liner and foam inserts as the air can still flow through those.

Good luck with your eggs.

Hi

Thanks for your message! The towel is the size of a face towel, not the size of a normal bath towel. If the towel is 12x12 inches and I lay it down in the incubator, do you think it will still stop the air circulation, with only one thin layer of a face towel?

Thank You!

Thanks for the clarification. What I would suggest then is that if you try it to keep a close eye on your temperature. Just to double check it’s not causing hot spots anywhere.

Hi

Thanks for your message! What exactly is a hot spot? I have two thermometers in my incubator. One on one side and one on the other side. One thermometer says 95.9 and the other thermometer says 97.5. The temperatures between the two thermometers always stays around 1.2-2.2 degrees Fahrenheit apart. Is this ok? I put the eggs as far as possible from the heat source. Yesterday I put a small face towel in the incubator so the eggs don't move and today I bought cabinet/drawer liner. The liner is made out of foam and has small holes in it so the heat can disperse, because with the towel, one part of it would be warmer than the other since the heat couldn't spread throughout the whole incubator, but with this foam liner, there's holes between the beads of the liner so the heat isn't trapped in just one place.

Thank You for your help!
