Is it really THAT Taboo?!

I am sure it is fine.. but when I first read the beginning of your post, my first thought was EWWWWWW..
I think that would be the reaction of a lot of people.

But here is a thought for you, I would research what the fat content is in goat and cow milk, vs the fact content of human milk. Ours might be less than ideal for making soap.
Just a thought for you...

It's the whole "bodily fluids" thing.

Most people don't really think about where "milk" comes from anyway.

Recommended milk banks screen the milk donors and test them for diseases (more strictly than blood donors and donations). Accepted milk is pasturized and then tested to make sure it's sterile before becoming available for use.

I'm not icked out by the soap thing at all.

But after reading all these posts, my breasts ache. I can't imagine being hooked up to a milking machine. Thanks heavens I'm past my prime and have been put out to pasture...

I'd buy a bar of that soap just to try it. The only real concern (not here on BYC, of course) but if the soap was made from the milk of a mother who was HIV+ or had another communicable condition, that could be problematic. But if you're going to make it out of your own and you know your milk sources, I say make the soap, send me a PM when it's ready, and I'll order some just to check it out. How you like them bananers?

ETA: I just ready another person's post about the fat content, and as someone who also dabbles a little in soapmaking, I too wondered if the fat content would be high enough. This is a really interesting subject/thought, and I'm glad the OP posted the query. It has generated a lot of healthy discussion ... this is why we love BYC.
