This is my first flock and I’m in need of some help! I have 5 new chicks from TSC, and I think one of my babies might be a cockerel? She looked just like my other buff Orpington yesterday and then today her comb and wattles changed color and got a little darker. Do you think it’s a cockerel or too early to tell? Thanks!!

Although a bit young to know for sure, I’d be suspicious that one could be male. I have BO for the first time this year, and they are 7 weeks. We took several close pics at 6 weeks and none of our three are as developed as yours, and yours is 2 weeks younger. Yes, the combs on ours are developing, with a touch of pink but the combs are smaller than on yours. Ours have some wattle growth, but nothing hanging down and some color, but yours has more growth and color.
It *could* be an individual variation of somewhat faster growth on a female.

here are ours at 6 weeks:

The top pic looks like a cock also.

I had the others tell me on this site, that you look for that extra flap of red skin behind/under the corners of the mouth, as the tell.
