Is she egg bound

I can’t see any reason at all to put her down sounds like she is enjoying her life. Even if she can’t run sounds like she is doing fine!! And your very special for giving the challenged a chance at a wonderful life
I agree!

Thanks, everybody! I appreciate your support; it help makes me feel like I'm doing the right thing.

To be honest, I am pretty low-tech (someone else uploaded my avatar photo for me). But as soon as I develop the ability, I will post photos of Paige. I have a few on my phone -- including when she, then a muddy mess, was in the bath tub while we waited for the egg to move.

Today, I let her out first (she sleeps in a small-animal kennel inside the larger duck shelter so she's with her flock at night) and she got first dibs on all the good bugs. She is now inside her private pen -- since the geese really like to hassle her and the drakes really, really want to "romance" her. I am trying to give her the best life possible.

Hi Callender Girl, I was wondering how Paige is doing? Did her leg get better? I have an eight month-old Barred Rock pullet who started limping and is now on her second week of antibiotics and pain meds. I’m really worried about her as I thought she had got a little better, it now she seems like she’s going backwards.

Hi LozzyR,

Paige's leg never recovered; it finally stopped swelling up (I was using antibiotics and draining the fluid for weeks) but she really limps and hobbles. She can't really run.

I have a cochin bantam who had something wrapped around her leg last fall. I took her to the vet, he removed it, we gave her meds and she seemed fine. Over the winter, that leg just kind of pulled up and all the feathers fell out. Sally can run as fast as she did before, but she kind of uses that leg like a cane. It still has a blood supply and she balances with it, or we would have amputated.

I understand why you are concerned about your girl. Sometimes, it seems like it takes forever for them to recover. I hope your pullet gets better. As long as she's not in terrible pain, even a crippled bird can have a good life. Animals adapt so much better than people do. Best wishes for her recovery!
